Perception of metaphony: a comparison between two dialects of the Lausberg area (southern Italy). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In several sound changes, differences in production do not necessarily match those in perception. This study explores this relationship in two varieties (MZ: Mittelzone; MM: Mormanno) spoken in the Lausberg area of Southern Italy that differ in the ...

Artificial Intelligence‐Assisted Workflow for Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AI‐Assisted Workflow for (Scanning) Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling. Abstract (Scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) has significantly advanced materials science but faces challenges in correlating precise atomic structure information with the functional properties of ...

Same origin, different outcomes. The use of converbial forms with perception verbs in Italian and in the varieties of Northern Italy [PDF]

open access: yes
In several Romance varieties spoken in Northern Italy, perception verbs may be combined with a converb. In this area, this type of construction is subject to a twofold variation: first, the converbial form used is a gerund in Northern Ladin, an ...

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Solvent‐Free Thermal Defect Engineering in Molecular Frameworks With Volatile Linkers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal removal of neutral volatile linkers enables precise and solvent‐free generation of metal vacancies in MOFs. This strategy affords redox‐stable, coordinatively unsaturated FeII sites with tunable spin, ligand coordination, and catalytic behavior. The approach offers a general route to design defect‐functional materials through local coordination

Towards a Strategy for ToBI labelling varieties of Italian

open access: yes, 2001
Contribution à un ouvrage. In this chapter we examine the intonation of a number of varieties of Italian. Since there is no agreement as to what constitutes "Standard Italian intonation" (see Galli de' Paratesi 1985; Lepschy and Lepschy 1977), we shall ...

A Dual‐Bioresponsive and Programmable Microneedle Matrix as a Bioinspired Coupler for Orchestrating Diabetic Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

GeoLingIt at EVALITA 2023: Overview of the Geolocation of Linguistic Variation in Italy Task

open access: yes, 2023
GeoLingIt is the first shared task on geolocation of linguistic variation in Italy from social media posts comprising content in language varieties other than standard Italian (i.e., regional Italian, and languages and dialects of Italy).

Testing and Simulation of Multilayer Polyvinylidene Fluoride‐Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvester Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The study considers the use of polymer/dielectric‐based multilayers piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (EH) to produce an output voltage and current, by exploiting the mechanical energy provided by human organs movements. In particular, the heart motion is considered from the kinematic viewpoint, and a multiphysics theoretical model is developed to assess
