Spatial non-uniformities in [Ca2+]i during excitation-contraction coupling in cardiac myocytes
The intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) transient in adult rat heart cells was examined using the fluorescent calcium indicator fluo-3 and a laser scanning confocal microscope. We find that the electrically evoked [Ca2+]i transient does not rise at a uniform rate at all points within the cell during the [Ca2+]i transient. These spatial non-uniformities in [

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Non-uniform dispersion of the source-sink relationship alters wavefront curvature. [PDF]
The distribution of cellular source-sink relationships plays an important role in cardiac propagation. It can lead to conduction slowing and block as well as wave fractionation.

Unusual spin-wave population in nickel after femtosecond laser pulse excitation
The spin-wave relaxation mechanisms after intense laser excitation in ferromagnetic nickel films are investigated with all-optical pump-probe experiments. Uniform precession (Kittel mode), Damon-Eshbach surface modes and perpendicular standing spin waves

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

A spatially uniform illumination source for widefield multi-spectral optical microscopy.
Illumination uniformity is a critical parameter for excitation and data extraction quality in widefield biological imaging applications. However, typical imaging systems suffer from spatial and spectral non-uniformity due to non-ideal optical elements ...

Experimental analysis of structure response to non-uniform support excitation
