A Hole-filling Algorithm Using Non-uniform Rational B-splines

2007
A three-dimensional (3D) geometric model obtained from a 3D device or other approaches is not necessarily watertight due to the presence of geometric deficiencies. These inadequacies must be repaired to create a valid surface mesh on the model as a pre-process of computational engineering analyses.

Robust engineering design optimization with non-uniform rational B-splines-based metamodels

Engineering Optimization, 2013
Non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBs) demonstrate properties that make them attractive as metamodels, or surrogate models, for engineering design purposes. Previous research has resulted in the development of algorithms capable of fitting NURBs-based metamodels to engineering design spaces, and optimizing these models.

An Efficient Scheme for Describing Airfoils Using Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines

Volume 6: Oil and Gas Applications; Concentrating Solar Power Plants; Steam Turbines; Wind Energy, 2012
In the well developed field of airfoil design there are a number of established schemes for describing airfoils, each with its own limitations and suitability to a particular application. Although less parsimonious, B-splines are often used to find solutions unconstrained by the characteristics of these schemes.

Cam Grinding Interpolation Research Based on Cubic Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
With the development of auto industry and aviation industry, the cam quality requirements higher and higher. The NURBS curve has excellent natures that can smooth the cam grinding path and improve its processing quality. Combined with existing CAD software and CNC systems, respectively, from reverse and forward two aspects of NURBS curve to illustrate ...

Improving Non-Uniform Rational B-splines' Knot Removal with Particle Swarm Optimization

2009 Sixth International Conference on Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualization, 2009
Data reduction and shape accuracy are two things that come in mind when it comes to computer graphics research. One such algorithm used is Non-Uniform Rational B-splines (NURBS). The method used to reduce data in NURBS is via knot removal, which relies on an error tolerance value.

A novel hole patching algorithm for discrete geometry using non‐uniform rational B‐spline

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2011
AbstractA hole patching algorithm for discrete geometry using a parametric approach based on Non‐Uniform Rational B‐Spline (NURBS) curves and surfaces is being presented in this paper. This algorithm is focused on recovering the missing geometric information based on the neighboring points surrounding the topologically simple but geometrically complex ...

A Computational Model of Rat Cerebral Blood Flow using Non-Uniform Rational B-splines

2007 29th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2007
Non-Uniform Rational B-splines (NURBS) surfaces can be used for a computer simulation of shapes. Some anatomical models of human or animal structures have been recently developed on that basis. We used positron-emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) data for NURBS modeling of anatomical structures and isotope uptake in the rat brain ...

Non-uniform rational B-spline-based minimum cost trajectory planning for autonomous robots

International Journal of Intelligent Systems Technologies and Applications, 2010
This paper proposes a new novel trajectory planning method by using two evolutionary algorithms namely Elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and differential evolution (DE) for an autonomous robot manipulator (STANFORD robot) whose workspace includes several obstacles.

Design method of rail grinding target profile based on non-uniform rational B-spline

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, 2020
The grinding strategies for worn rails have a significant influence on the service life and maintenance cost of railways. Current grinding strategies, grinding the worn rails to their original profiles, leads to excessive amount of material removed and reduction of rail service life.

Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline Based Iso-Geometric Analysis for a Class of Hydrodynamic Problems

International Journal of Maritime Engineering, 2020
Herein, we present the design and development of a ‘Non-uniform Rational B-spline (NURBS)’ based iso-geometric approach for the analysis of a number of ‘Boundary Value Problems (BVPs)’ relevant in hydrodynamics. We propose a ‘Potential Function’ based ‘Boundary Element Method (BEM)’ and show that it holds the advantage of being computationally ...
