Non-union of acetabular fractures

Non-unions of acetabulum are rare. Seven cases of acetabular non-unions are reported in this retrospective study. Five out of our seven patients had either transverse or associated transverse with posterior wall fractures. All patients had surgical stabilisation of their index fractures.

The presentation of scaphoid non-union

Talar malunions can cause significant morbidity in the form of hindfoot deformity, pain, and gait abnormalities. Malunion and nonunion may coexist, making treatment more challenging. Reconstruction is feasible in cases where the talar dome cartilage is intact, avascular necrosis is minimal or partial, and no infection.

Non-union of long bones is a significant consequence of fracture treatment. The ideal classification for non-union of long bones would give sufficient significant information to the orthopaedic surgeon to enable good management of the treatment required and to facilitate the creation of comparable study groups for research purposes.
