Diagnosis and therapy of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2015
Non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is defined as bleeding proximal to the ligament of Treitz in the absence of oesophageal, gastric or duodenal varices. The clinical presentation varies according to the intensity of bleeding from occult bleeding to melena or haematemesis and haemorrhagic shock. Causes of UGIB are peptic ulcers, Mallory-

Advancements in endoscopic hemostasis for non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Non-variceal upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Traditionally, through-the-scope (TTS) clips, thermal therapy, and injection therapies are used to treat GI bleeding. In this review, we provide an overview of novel endoscopic treatments that can be used to achieve hemostasis.

Modified Glasgow-Blatchford Bleeding Score as an Alternative Predictors of Severity for Non-Variceal Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding

open access: yesIndonesian Biomedical Journal, 2016
BACKGROUND: Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is a frequent cause of emergency hospital admissions. Despite the dependency of most risk scoring systems for this disorder, the Glasgow-Blatchford bleeding score (GBS) is based on simple variables. This

Porto‐sinusoidal vascular disorder in a pediatric patient with prolidase deficiency: A case report

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Prolidase deficiency (PD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder affecting collagen turnover, leading to diverse clinical manifestations including dermatologic lesions, hepatosplenomegaly, and vascular anomalies. Liver involvement in PD is poorly understood, with few reported cases.

Application of cyanoacrylate in difficult-to-arrest acute non-variceal gastrointestinal bleeding. [PDF]

open access: yesVideosurgery and Other Miniinvasive Techniques, 2014
Gastrointestinal bleeding is a common medical emergency. Although endoscopic treatment is effective in controlling non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, in cases of persistent bleeding radiological or surgical interventions are required. Application of cyanoacrylate for treatment of difficult-to-arrest non-variceal upper gastrointestinal ...

Hemostatic Powders in Non-Variceal Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding: The Open Questions

open access: yesMedicina, 2023
Hemostatic powder (HP) is a relatively recent addition to the arsenal of hemostatic endoscopic procedures (HEPs) for gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) due to benign and malignant lesions. Five types of HP are currently available: TC-325 (Hemospray™), EndoClot™, Ankaferd Blood Stopper®, and, more recently, UI-EWD (NexpowderTM) and CEGP-003 (CGBio™).

Endoscopic Variceal Ligation and ß-Blocker Combination Versus Ligation Monotherapy as Variceal Esophagus Bleeding Secondary Prevention

open access: yesThe Indonesian Journal of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Digestive Endoscopy, 2020
Background: Variceal esophagus' risk of re-bleeding in the first year is 60-70%. Mortality rate of acute bleeding is 20-35%. Latest guidelines of esophageal rupture suggest endoscopic ligation and Non-selective b-Blocker combination for re-bleeding ...

Platelet / spleen ratio for the diagnosis of esophageal varices and the risk of bleeding in patients with liver failure

open access: yesRevista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana, 2021
Introduction: Upper gastrointestinal bleeding of variceal origin has a high mortality. The platelet count/spleen major diameter ratio may be a useful noninvasive parameter to predict esophageal variceal bleeding in cirrhotic patients.

Application of machine learning in constructing a diagnostic model for neonatal biliary atresia

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
This study included 85 neonates who visited the hospital due to pathological jaundice. Using the basic clinical characteristics and serological examination data of the neonatal period, we developed six machine‐learning (ML) models. Extreme gradient boosting has the maximum potential to diagnose biliary atresia in the neonatal period.
