This article reviews the examination of aggression in ethology. It concludes that though ethology establishes a biology of aggression, it does not conclude a biological determinism behind human violence. The article begins by examining this miscomprehension. Ethology shows a strong evolutionary tendency for aggression to be non‐violent behaviour.
