Studies on the bacterial permeability of non-woven fabrics and cotton fabrics
Journal of Hospital Infection, 1986The permeability of cotton and non-woven fabrics to bacteria, air and water was studied. Non-woven fabrics, even when wet, showed low resistance to air, and high resistance to permeation of water and bacteria. Water-repellent cotton fabrics were resistant to permeation of water, air and bacteria, but these properties decreased on washing.

Microperforated panel (MPP) absorbers have been widely used in noise reduction and are regarded as a promising alternative to the traditional porous materials. However, the flat panel-like shape restricts their practical use in actual rooms or buildings.

Measurements of lateral contraction in the plane of the sheet and of changes in thickness were made on cross-laid and random-laid bonded-nber fabrics subjected to a tensile stress either parallel or at right angles to the machine direction. From these measurements, the corresponding changes in volume were derived.
