On the Combinatorics of Locally Repairable Codes via Matroid Theory

open access: yes, 2016
This paper provides a link between matroid theory and locally repairable codes (LRCs) that are either linear or more generally almost affine. Using this link, new results on both LRCs and matroid theory are derived.

Robotic Environmental Monitoring Using Gelatin Hydrogels as a Biodegradable Adhesive

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Gelatin‐based hydrogels are presented as a robust, biodegradable, and water‐soluble method of adhesion for robotic environmental monitoring. Factors affecting the adhesion strength are characterized, and the hydrogel is tested on different materials with varying surface roughness.

Nonexistence of positive solutions for a nonpositone system in a ball

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2015
In this article, we prove the nonexistence of positive solutions for a nonpositone system in a ball when the nonlinearities may have more than one zero.

Existence and Nonexistence of Descriptive Patterns [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2009
AbstractIn the present paper, we study the existence of descriptive patterns, i.e. patterns that cover all words in a given set through morphisms and that are optimal in terms of revealing commonalities of these words. Our main result shows that if patterns may be mapped to words by arbitrary morphisms, then there exist infinite sets of words that do ...

AKG‐VO: Adaptive Keyframe Generation Method for Improving Visual Odometry in Autonomous Vehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An adaptive keyframe generation method for pose estimation is proposed, incorporating optical flow‐based interframe gap estimation and video frame interpolation techniques. By limiting interframe gaps, meaningful keyframes are generated to enhance tracking reliability.

On the critical behavior for a Sobolev-type inequality with Hardy potential

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique
We investigate the existence and nonexistence of weak solutions to the Sobolev-type inequality $ -\partial _t(\Delta u)-\Delta u+ \frac{\sigma }{|x|^2}u \ge |x|^{\mu }|u|^p$ in $(0,\infty )\times B$, under the inhomogeneous Dirichlet-type boundary ...

"Boundary blowup" type sub-solutions to semilinear elliptic equations with Hardy potential

open access: yes, 2007
Semilinear elliptic equations which give rise to solutions blowing up at the boundary are perturbed by a Hardy potential. The size of this potential effects the existence of a certain type of solutions (large solutions): if the potential is too small ...

Advances in 3D Printing Technologies for Fabricating Magnetic Soft Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This paper gives an in‐depth synopsis of various additive manufacturing technologies used to fabricate magnetic soft microrobots. The review covers the basics behind magnetism and the materials used. It then dives into three‐dimensional printing technologies including extrusion, photopolymerization, jetting, etc.

Nonexistence results for nonlocal equations with critical and supercritical nonlinearities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We prove nonexistence of nontrivial bounded solutions to some nonlinear problems involving nonlocal operators of the form \[Lu(x)=\sum a_{ij}\partial_{ij}u+{\rm PV}\int_{\R^n}(u(x)-u(x+y))K(y)dy.\] These operators are infinitesimal generators of ...

Elastic Fast Marching Learning from Demonstration

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents Elastic Fast Marching Learning (EFML), a novel approach for learning from demonstration that combines velocity‐based planning with elastic optimization. EFML enables smooth, precise, and adaptable robot trajectories in both position and orientation spaces.
