Primary Renal Tumors In Nonhuman Primates

open access: yes, 1981
In 17 nonhuman primates, nine females and eight males from 5 to 22 years old, there were 10 cases of renal carcinoma, four of renal adenoma, one nephroblastoma, one hamartoma and one transitional cell papillomatous hyperplasia.

Lithic analysis in African archaeology: Advances and key themes

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Stone artifacts (lithics) preserve for extended periods; thus they are key evidence for probing the evolution of human technological behaviors. Africa boasts the oldest record of stone artifacts, spanning 3.3 Ma, rare instances of ethnographic stone tool‐making, and stone tool archives from diverse ecological settings, making it an anchor for ...

Trace Element Patterns in Juvenile Wild Chimpanzee Dentitions

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Trace elements are used to infer mammalian early‐life diets, environmental toxins, dispersal patterns, stress histories, and weaning ages. Here, we employ laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry (LA‐ICP‐MS) to reveal elemental patterns in our closest living relatives, chimpanzees.

Endocrine modulation of stimulant use: bidirectional interactions within the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience
Stimulant use disorders are chronic relapsing conditions that differentially affect men and women. Growing evidence has demonstrated that endocrine systems play critical, bidirectional roles in regulating vulnerability to drug use, escalation, withdrawal,

Circadian disruption elicits sex‐specific gut microbiota, endocannabinoidome, and lipid mediator responses

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Circadian disruption via constant light induces sex‐specific remodeling of the microbiome, lipid mediators, and immune responses. Females exhibit broader gut microbiota alterations, reduced jejunal oxylipins, increased hypothalamic N‐acylethanolamines, and a more inflammatory cytokine profile. Muscle responses are sex‐ and fiber type‐dependent: females

Lower density of calretinin‐immunopositive neurons in the putamen of subjects with schizophrenia

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 505-516, April 2025.
Recent neuroimaging and histological studies highlight the striatum as a key area involved in SCH, but the specific impairment of neuronal subtypes in subcortical structures is not fully understood. This study is the first detailed investigation of neuroanatomical changes in the putamen in SCH, specifically examining the density of calretinin ...

Histological analysis of incremental markings and crown growth characteristics in mandibular first molars of the red fox, Vulpes vulpes (Canidae, Mammalia)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
This paper histologically analyzed incremental markings in dental enamel of red fox and grey wolf. Our results demonstrate that previous studies have misidentified these markings, which led to miscalculation of dental growth parameters. Abstract The present study analyzed incremental markings in the enamel of eight mandibular first molars (M1) of red ...

The impact of footwear on human talar trabecular architecture

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Medial and lateral views of the human foot skeleton in the shod and unshod groups, with color maps representing mean relative trabecular bone volume fraction (rBV/TV) in the talus for each group. The shod group exhibited greater rBV/TV in the medial and posterior talus, whereas the unshod group had greater rBV/TV in the talar head and neck.

Major histocompatibility complex class I molecules of nonhuman primates

open access: yes, 1988
The usefulness of nonhuman primates in immunologically relevant research has until now been limited by difficulties in characterizing the major histocompatibility (MHC) gene products of these species.
