Analytical approximation of nonlinear distortions

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2005
We present an analytical approximation that can describe the signal at the output of a nonlinear fiber, accounting for the distortions induced by the interplay between chromatic dispersion and Kerr nonlinearity. The obtained results agree well with the split-step Fourier method for launch powers as high as 10 dBm.

On representation and approximation of nonlinear systems

Biological Cybernetics, 1978
Many methods for the analysis of nonlinear systems rely on a Volterra system-representation in terms of integral kernels. This paper considers two questions: 1) whether Volterra-like representations are possible for all smooth systems (i.e. analytic operators),-2) which classes of systems can be approximated by some interesting subclasses of the smooth

Nonlinear Operator Approximation [PDF]

open access: possible, 1976
This paper is concerned with convergence theorems and error bounds for approximate solutions of nonlinear problems, with particular applications to Urysohn integral equations. It is an abbreviated version of a more extensive projected sequel by P.M. Anselone, J. Davis and P.M. Prenter.

Discrete Nonlinear Mean Approximation

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1977
AbstractBest approximation on a finite set by a non‐linear family of functions with respect to a general sum “norm”, which includes as a special case the Lp norms (1 < p < ∞), is considered. Properties of best approximations are given. It is shown that a local minimum of the error may not be a global minimum. Computation of best approximations is
