The Nonlinear Bending of Thin Circular Rods

Abstract Two examples of the nonlinear bending of thin circular rods are discussed using the Bernoulli-Euler equation, which states that the change of curvature of a rod is proportional to the bending moment producing it. Numerical results are presented.

Fundamental equations and boundary conditions of nonlinear axisymmetrical bending theory for circular sandwich plates with a soft core are derived by means of variational methods. Especially in the case of very thin faces, the preceding fundamental equations and boundary conditions are considerably simplified.

Nonlinear free bending vibrations of plates

A general solution for the Helmholtz differential equations is obtained in the complex domain and applied to the nonlinear, free, bending vibrations of plates. The analysis is based on the decoupled nonlinear von Kármán field equations by Berger assumption for the large deformations of plates.
