Thermomechanical nonlinear buckling of pressure-loaded carbon nanotube reinforced composite toroidal shell segment surrounded by an elastic medium with tangentially restrained edges

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2018
Buckling and postbuckling behaviors of toroidal shell segment reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes, surrounded by an elastic medium, exposed to a thermal environment and subjected to uniform external pressure are investigated in this paper ...

Improved nonlinear buckling analysis of structures

Computational Mechanics, 1990
The theory of structural stability is both an important and a difficult subject, whose main field of application is found in the design of thin wall lightweight structures and shells. It is unavoidable to employ nonlinear model and to use finite element numerical method in order to obtain the critical load under the action of which the instability of ...

Buckling of Sheathed Walls: Nonlinear Analysis

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1988
A nonlinear theory for analyzing the buckling behavior of sheathed walls is presented. The theory predicts that the reversal of lateral deflection occurs when the load is applied near the compression center of the wall. This phenomenon is due to the movement of the compression center caused by the nonlinear joint stiffness.

Buckling and Nonlinear Analysis of Conoidal Shells

Volume 8: 28th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2016
Slender shell structures described by ruled surfaces have been frequently used in civil engineering and, among these slender shells, conoidal shells are frequently favored as roofing units to cover large column-free areas due to their ease of construction, aesthetic value and structural efficiency. This work studies the nonlinear post-buckling behavior

Structural optimization for specified nonlinear buckling load factor

Japan Journal of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, 2002
Optimal design of finite-dimensional elastic structures is considered. The proposed method is based on the sensitivity analysis where the sensitivity formulation is written in general form for coincidental buckling load factors including limit points and bifurcation points.

In-Plane Nonlinear Buckling of Funicular Arches

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2015
This paper presents a numerical technique to determine the full pre-buckling and post-buckling equilibrium path for elastic funicular arches. The formulation includes the effects of shear deformations and geometric nonlinearity due to large deformations. The Timoshenko beam hypothesis is adopted for incorporating shear.
