Omnidirectional Ultra‐Broadband Cu/TiO2 Metasurface Absorbers for High‐Efficiency Solar Thermal Conversion and Photothermal Plasmon‐Driven Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface shows selective solar–thermal energy conversion with high‐activity solar/laser‐driven chemistry. The breakthrough is co‐designing broadband FP‐cavity + plasmonic LSPR/SLR resonances in an ultra‐thin metamaterial so that it not only harvests the most efficient proportion of solar radiation but also suppresses mid and IR emissivity. Moreover,

Effect of the viscous damping on the seismic response of Low-rise RC frame building

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2020
The equivalent viscous damping is a key parameter in the prediction of the maximum nonlinear response. Damping constitutes a major source of uncertainty in dynamic analysis. This paper studies the effect of using viscous damping, on the reduction of the

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Nonlinear Damping Characteristic of Nanocomposite Beams Via Dynamical Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The nonlinear dynamical behavior of nanocomposite beams made of polybutylene terephthalate and branched carbon-nanotube (CNTs) are experimentally investigated. The frequency response curves of specimens with different CNTs weight fractions are obtained

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Surface-wave damping in a brimful circular cylinder [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The natural frequencies and damping rates of surface waves in a circular cylinder with pinned-end boundary conditions are calculated in terms of the gravitational Reynolds and Bond numbers, C[minus sign]1 and B, and the slenderness of the cylinder ...

Determining the nonlinear damping function using experiments

open access: yesОмский научный вестник
In this article, the coefficients of the nonlinear damping function of a mechanical system with one translational degree of freedom are determined from an experimentally obtained oscillogram of free vibrations.
