Nonlinear resonance for quasilinear hyperbolic equation
Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1987The purpose of this paper is to study the wave behavior of hyperbolic conservation laws with a moving source. Resonance occurs when the speed of the source is too close to one of the characteristic speeds of the system. For the nonlinear system characteristic speeds depend on the basic dependence variables and resonance gives rise to nonlinear ...

Local solutions for a nonlinear degenerate Hyperbolic equation
Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 1986The author investigates local solutions for the initial-boundary value problem associated to the nonlinear degenerated hyperbolic equation of the type \(u_{tt}-M(\int_{\Omega}| \nabla u|^ 2dx)\Delta u=0,\) which comes from the mathematical description of the vibrations of an elastic stretched string.

Cosine Methods for Nonlinear Second-Order Hyperbolic Equations
Mathematics of Computation, 1989We construct and analyze efficient, high-order accurate methods for approximating the smooth solutions of a class of nonlinear, second-order hyperbolic equations. The methods are based on Galerkin type discretizations in space and on a class of fourth-order accurate two-step schemes in time generated by rational approximations to the cosine ...

A nonlinear hyperbolic volterra equation
1979A mathematical model for the motion of a nonlinear one dimensional viscoelastic rod is analysed by an energy method developed by C.M. Dafermos and the author. Global existence, uniqueness, boundedness, and the decay of smooth solutions as t → ∞ are established for sufficiently smooth and "small" data.

Nonlinear hyperbolic differential equations in microelectronics
Korean Journal of Computational & Applied Mathematics, 1995Nonlinear hyperbolic differential equations have been a subject of intense research in the field of gas dynamics due to many engineering problems associated with high-speed airplanes, missiles, materials processing, etc. Recently, phenomena known from gas dynamics are found to occur also in the microeletronic devices such as MOSFET.

A damped nonlinear hyperbolic equation with nonlinear strain term
Journal of Applied Nonlinear Dynamics, 2022Summary: In this work, we investigate an initial boundary value problem related to the nonlinear hyperbolic equation \(u_{tt}+u_{xxxx}+ \alpha u_{xxxxt}=f(u_x)_x\), for \(f(s)=|s|^{\rho} +|s|^{\sigma}\), \(1< \rho,\sigma\), \(\alpha >0\). Under suitable conditions, we prove the existence of global solutions and the exponential decay of energy.

Solvability of Nonlinear Inverse Problem for Hyperbolic Equation
Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2017Summary: We consider the nonlinear inverse problem for a second order hyperbolic equation with unknown coefficient depending on the time. We establish the existence and uniqueness of regular solutions which are used for constructing a solution to the inverse problem under consideration.

Asymptotic Equations for Nonlinear Hyperbolic Waves
1995Universal asymptotic equations. It is a remarkable fact that, in suitable asymptotic limits, the behavior of almost all nonlinear waves is described by a few rather simple looking nonlinear equations. Examples include Burgers equation, the Kortewegde Vries (KdV) equation, and the nonlinear Schrodinger equation.
