1978Abstract A pilot study in Knight Inlet, British Columbia has yielded measurements of large amplitude, nonlinear internal waves in the strongly stratified surface layer. A train of several waves with amplitudes exceeding 10 meters and periods of a few minutes, passed the vessel on each flood tide.

Nonlinear total internal reflection of electromagnetic waves
Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics, 1997We study the stationary solution of an unstable system of interacting inhomogeneous electromagnetic waves and an acoustic wave. It is shown that the instability of this system is of hard type and the threshold of its vanishing is smaller than the excitation threshold.
