Nonlinear Analysis of Intervertebral Disk Under Dynamic Load

Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1990
This study pertains to the response of intervertebral joint under dynamic axial load. The numerical model represents two vertebral bodies with an interposed disk and uses three-dimensional elements. A transversely isotropic material law is adopted for cortical bone and an isotropic law for cancellous bone.

Analysis of antennas and scatterers with nonlinear loads

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1976
Two methods for analyzing antennas or scatterers having nonlinear resistive loads are discussed. The first is a direct time-domain integral equation approach, whereas the second involves the use of frequency domain data to compute the time-dependent currents and voltages across the nonlinear load.

Nonlinear load characteristics of HVDC converters

12th IET International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission (ACDC 2016), 2016
The voltage dependence of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) converters as a load in ac systems is studied in this paper. Analytical studies are conducted for various HVDC control modes. It is shown that HVDC converter behaves between constant power and constant current. Its reactive power is more close to constant current type load.

A nonlinear load simulator for robot manipulators

IECON'01. 27th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (Cat. No.37243), 2002
This study is on the development of a Hardware-In-the-Loop system for the high performance control of a 2-link direct drive planar arm. At this stage of the study, necessary hardware and software has been set-up and the actual torque components derived through Euler-Lagrange formulation have been simulated in real time on the test-bed, incorporating a ...

Response of a Loaded Nonlinear String to Random Excitation

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1962
The response to white noise excitation of a light elastic string loaded at equal intervals by a number of equal masses is examined using the theory of the Markov random process and the associated Fokker-Planck equation. Taking nonlinear effects due to variation in string tension into account, an exact solution of the Fokker-Planck equation is obtained ...

Lateral Load Analysis of Nonlinear Piles

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1988
Analysis of the response of pile foundations to lateral loads requires accurate characterization of the behavior of the pile and the soil surrounding the pile. The common assumption of pile linearity in bending may not be valid in many cases. A model for representing nonlinear pile bending behavior in the analysis of laterally loaded piles is ...

Nonlinear vibration of a loaded string in energy harvesting

Smart Materials and Structures
Abstract Designing wideband energy harvesters using beam structures typically involves complexities, particularly in low-frequency and low-energy environments where the limitations of beam structures become more evident. To address these challenges, this study proposed a strategy for energy harvesting using a loaded-string system and ...

A Nonlinear Load-Frequency Control Design

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1978
A load frequency control for a two-area interconnected system is designed taking into account the nonlinearity and stochasticy of the load and using an optimal linear strategy aided by stability analysis. An observer is proposed for its implementation. A coordinating control for the two area system based on acceleration feedback is suggested.

Power factor improvement for nonlinear loads

[Proceedings] IEEE 1991 Annual Textile, Fiber and Film Industry Technical Conference, 2002
Power factor correction through the application of capacitors to electrical systems is addressed, with particular reference to avoiding problems in systems where large nonlinear loads producing harmonic distortion are present. Power factor is reviewed, and a method for designing a power factor correction is presented. The approach has been successfully

On the equilibria of power systems with nonlinear loads

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, 1989
A discussion is presented of various structure-preserving models for power systems along with their differential-algebraic and local-normal-form representations. The different models emanate from a variety of the generator and load damping properties. The equilibria of interest reflect the bus power imbalance after a fault and depend on the nature of ...
