Nonlinear mixed effects modeling of growth in Japanese quail

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2013
The aim of this study was to examine the use of a nonlinear mixed modeling approach to growth studies of Japanese quail. Weekly BW measurements of 89 female and 89 male quail were used in the study. A well-known logistic growth function was used in the analysis.

Photonic Engineering Enables All‐Passive Upconversion Imaging with Low‐Intensity Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A passive upconversion imaging system enables the observation of scenes illuminated by low‐intensity incoherent near‐infrared light from 750 to 930 nm, by converting it into the visible without the use of external power. The upconverter is enabled by triplet–triplet annihilation in a bulk heterojunction, with absorption enhanced by plasmonic resonators

Influence of C-reactive protein on the pharmacokinetics of voriconazole in relation to the CYP2C19 genotype: a population pharmacokinetics analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Voriconazole is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal agent. A number of studies have revealed that the impact of C-reactive protein (CRP) on voriconazole pharmacokinetics was associated with the CYP2C19 phenotype. However, the combined effects of CYP2C19

Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.

Exploiting Two‐Photon Lithography, Deposition, and Processing to Realize Complex 3D Magnetic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon lithography (TPL) enables 3D magnetic nanostructures with unmatched freedom in geometry and material choice. Advances in voxel control, deposition, and functionalization open pathways to artificial spin ices, racetracks, microrobots, and a number of additional technological applications.

Inferring the Timing of Antiretroviral Therapy by Zero-Inflated Random Change Point Models Using Longitudinal Data Subject to Left-Censoring

open access: yesAlgorithms
We propose a new random change point model that utilizes routinely recorded individual-level HIV viral load data to estimate the timing of antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation in people living with HIV.

Local Influence Analysis for Quasi-Likelihood Nonlinear Models with Random Effects

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2018
We propose a quasi-likelihood nonlinear model with random effects, which is a hybrid extension of quasi-likelihood nonlinear models and generalized linear mixed models. It includes a wide class of existing models as examples.

An R Package for Assessing Drug Synergism/Antagonism [PDF]

open access: yes
Synergistic and antagonistic drug interactions are important to consider when developing mixtures of anticancer or other types of drugs. Boik, Newman, and Boik (2008) proposed the MixLow method as an alternative to the Median-Effect method of Chou and ...

Semiparametric Mixed Effect Model with Application to the Longitudinal Knee Osteoarthritis (OAK) Data [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics, 2012
Motivated by the study of the longitudinal development and progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA) over a 15-year period, this study developed non-parametric mixed-effect models for ordinal outcomes.
