Differential Evolution Markov Chain with snooker updater and fewer chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Differential Evolution Markov Chain (DE-MC) is an adaptive MCMC algorithm, in which multiple chains are run in parallel. Standard DE-MC requires at least N=2d chains to be run in parallel, where d is the dimensionality of the posterior.

LINEAR AND NONLINEAR MIXED-EFFECTS MODELS

open access: yesConference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture, 1998
Douglas M. Bates Department of Statistics University of Wisconsin Madison Jose C. Pinheiro Bell Laboratories Lucent Technologies 1 Recent developments in computational methods for maximum likelihood (ML) or restricted maximum likelihood (REML) estimation of parameters in general linear mixed-effects models have made the analysis of data in typical ...

A primer on distributional assumptions and model linearity in repeated measures data analysis [PDF]

open access: yesTutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology, 2018
Repeated measures data are widely used in social and behavioral sciences, e.g., to investigate the trajectory of an underlying phenomenon over time.

Coevolutionary dynamics of a variant of the cyclic Lotka-Volterra model with three-agent interactions

open access: yes, 2020
We study a variant of the cyclic Lotka-Volterra model with three-agent interactions. Inspired by a multiplayer variation of the Rock-Paper-Scissors game, the model describes an ideal ecosystem in which cyclic competition among three species develops ...

Game Theory of Tumor–Stroma Interactions in Multiple Myeloma: Effect of Nonlinear Benefits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cancer cells and stromal cells often exchange growth factors with paracrine effects that promote cell growth: a form of cooperation that can be studied by evolutionary game theory. Previous models have assumed that interactions between cells are pairwise

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Tacrolimus exposure during the three-month period following allogeneic stem cell transplantation predicts overall survival

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between both short-term and long-term tacrolimus exposure and overall survival after allogeneic stem cell transplantation and to propose individualized tacrolimus dosing based on ...

Nonlinear Unmixing via Deep Autoencoder Networks for Generalized Bilinear Model

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Hyperspectral unmixing decomposes the observed mixed spectra into a collection of constituent pure material signatures and the associated fractional abundances.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Modeling the oxygen uptake kinetics during exercise testing of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases using nonlinear mixed models

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2016
Background The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is commonly used to quantify exercise capacity in patients with several cardio-pulmonary diseases. Oxygen uptake ( V ̇ $\dot {\mathrm {V}}$ O2) kinetics during 6MWT typically follow 3 distinct phases (rest ...
