Bifurcation Control of an Electrostatically-Actuated MEMS Actuator with Time-Delay Feedback

open access: yesMicromachines, 2016
The parametric excitation system consisting of a flexible beam and shuttle mass widely exists in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), which can exhibit rich nonlinear dynamic behaviors.

Lone‐Pair‐Induced Lattice Distortion in Lead‐Free Hybrid Perovskites for High‐Performance Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lead‐free tin‐based hybrid perovskite is designed in which stereochemically active lone‐pair electrons on tin distort the crystal lattice and break its symmetry. Blended into a flexible polymer, the material converts pressure into electricity at milliwatt‐scale power density and continues working far below freezing, powering a commercial wristwatch ...

Nonlinear Vibration of Temperature-Dependent FGM Beams with Symmetric and Asymmetric Boundary Conditions via the Generalized Differential Quadrature Method

open access: yesComputation
Functionally graded (FG) materials can deliver greater mechanical performance compared to pure isotropic and composite materials. Temperature has a significant effect on structural performance, as it can substantially reduce the stiffness parameter and ...

Defect‐Mediated Inelastic Light Scattering by Infrared Phonons in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optically active defects in hexagonal boron nitride enable inelastic stimulated light scattering mediated by infrared‐active phonons, relaxing conventional Raman selection rules. Defect engineering enhances the Stokes‐conversion process and activates both TO‐ and LO‐phonon scattering channels.

Influence of tooth profile errors and subharmonic resonance in helical gears rattle

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
This paper deals with the gear rattle of helical gear system. Introducing the mesh stiffness and torque variation into the one pair of helical gear system, the effects of the shapes of the tooth profile errors on the rattle are studied, and the ...

Neuromorphic Devices for Extreme Environments: State‐Variable Reliability and Stabilization Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Neuromorphic devices for extreme environments are interpreted through the physical states that store and process information. Radiation, temperature extremes, and vacuum can perturb vacancies, filaments, trapped charges, polarization, interfaces, and readout signals.

Internal Resonance Mismatch-Controlled Dissipative Bistability Collapse in Coupled Micromechanical Oscillators. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
This paper reveals internal resonance mismatch‐controlled dissipative bistability collapse in a coupled micromechanical resonator. Tuning δIR changes both internal‐mode amplitude and phase‐dependent feedback. For negative mismatch, Duffing bistability survives.

Emergence of a Hexagonal Fe2S2 Single Layer Without a Bulk Counterpart via Phase Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Upon annealing, single‐layer Mackinawite iron sulfide transforms into a previously unknown hexagonal Fe2S2${\rm Fe}_2{\rm S}_2$ phase with β$\beta$‐CuI structure. STM, LEED, and first‐principles calculations identify the structure and show that electronic correlations and magnetic order are important for its stability.
