Z-scan measurement of the nonlinear refractive index of graphene [PDF]
Under strong laser illumination, few-layer graphene exhibits both a transmittance increase due to saturable absorption and a nonlinear phase shift. Here, we unambiguously distinguish these two nonlinear optical effects and identify both real and imaginary parts of the complex nonlinear refractive index of graphene.

Effect of a nonlinear refractive index on Faraday rotation [PDF]
A theory for the nonlinear (with respect to the electric field) Faraday effect has been developed and applied to a simple model. Within the frame-work of this model our analysis shows that the ratio of the nonlinear Verdetconstant to the linear Verdet constant is proportional to the intensity of theincident light and depends on the frequency of light ...

Measurements of nonlinear refractive index in scattering media
We have recently developed a spectral re-shaping technique to simultaneously measure nonlinear refractive index and nonlinear absorption. In this technique, the information about the nonlinearities is encoded in the frequency domain, rather than in the spatial domain as in the conventional Z-scan method.

Nonlinear refractive index in silica glass
The third-order nonlinear susceptibility of silica glass is measured via self-phase modulation in standard single mode fibers at a wavelength of 1550 nm. To minimize the influence of polarization state changes along the propagation only meter-long fibers were investigated.

Complex nonlinear refractive index of DNA
Abstract Femtosecond Z-scan technique was used to determine the dispersion of the complex cubic nonlinear susceptibility (related to the nonlinear refractive index n 2 and the two-photon absorption coefficient β 2 ) of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in the range of wavelengths from 530–1300 nm. The nonlinear refractive index of DNA varies from ≈ 2 ×

LINEAR AND NONLINEAR REFRACTIVE INDEX CHANGES IN SPHERICAL QUANTUM DOT [PDF]
In this study, refractive index changes associated with in- tersubband transitions in a spherical quantum dot, GaAs/AlxGa1ixAs, have been theoretically calculated in the presence of impurity. In this regard, the efiect of dot radius, stoichiometric ratio, impurity and in- cident optical intensity on the refractive index changes have been in- vestigated

Saturation of the nonlinear refractive index in atomic gases [PDF]
Motivated by the ongoing controversy over the origin of the nonlinear index saturation and subsequent intensity clamping in femtosecond filaments, we study the atomic nonlinear polarization induced by high-intensity ultrashort laser pulses in hydrogen by numerically solving the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation.

Microwave lenses with nonlinear refractive index
Microwave lenses made from ferrite material change their optical characteristics when a d.c. magnetic field is acting. Experiments for changing the refractive index with lenses of D-type ferrite material and a wave frequency of 9GHz are described.

Evidence of Negative-Index Refraction in Nonlinear Chemical Waves
The negative index of refraction of nonlinear chemical waves has become a recent focus in nonlinear dynamics researches. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations have predicted that the negative index of refraction can occur on the interface between antiwaves and normal waves in a reaction-diffusion (RD) system.

Measurement of pressure dependent nonlinear refractive index of inert gases
The propagation of high intensity laser beams is excessively affected by optical nonlinear effects, thereby the knowledge of the nonlinear refractive indices of the beam guiding media is indispensable in the design of laser systems and experiments.
