Cornus mas L. seeds are transformed into a high‐performance biosorbent through chemical modification, effectively removing methylene blue from aqueous solutions. Comprehensive characterization and optimization reveal a maximum biosorption capacity of 71.71 mg g−1, establishing this sustainable, cost‐effective material as a promising solution for ...

Unobserved Heterogeneity in Regression Models: A Semiparametric Approach Based on Nonlinear Sieves
This paper proposes a semiparametric approach to control for unobserved heterogeneity in linear regression models, based on an artificial neural network extremum estimator. We present a procedure to specify the model and use simulations to evaluate its finite sample properties in comparison to alternative methods. The simulations show that our approach

Evolution of a mixing zone in granular avalanches
A nonlinear first-order partial differential equation in two space variables and time describes the process of kinetic sieving in an avalanche, in which larger particles tend to rise to the surface while smaller particles descend, quickly leading to ...

This paper presents an agar medium with a phosphorescent grid pattern that measures the stress distribution generated by growing plant roots. Using phosphorescence, the system optically separates the grid pattern from the root and extracts the grid deformation.

Particle-size segregation and diffusive remixing in shallow granular avalanches [PDF]
Segregation and mixing of dissimilar grains is a problem in many industrial and pharmaceutical processes, as well as in hazardous geophysical flows, where the size-distribution can have a major impact on the local rheology and the overall run-out.

Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

Proximal retinal contribution to the intraretinal 8-Hz pattern ERG of cat
We investigated the retinal depth of origin of the pattern ERG (PERG) in cat by recording extracellular responses to contrast reversal grating stimuli and performing a current source-density analysis of the depth profiles.

In-situ crystal morphology identification using imaging analysis with application to the L-glutamic acid crystallization [PDF]
A synthetic image analysis strategy is proposed for in-situ crystal size measurement and shape identification for monitoring crystallization processes, based on using a real-time imaging system.
