Nonlinear Static Analysis

2001
In the general case of thin-walled structures, we can have both large displacements and large strains. This renders the governing equations highly nonlinear and therefore they can only be solved using computational methods. Furthermore, because of the complicated load history dependence, this suggests a time or load incremental solution.

Sensitivity Analysis: Nonlinear Static Spring Systems

2009
In design we perform an analysis and then we often “tweak” a design parameter and repeat the analysis to see if the design performance improves. In optimization we compute gradients of the cost and constraint functions to guide us through the design space and ultimately arrive at a design that satisfies the Karush-Kuhn Tucker optimality criteria*.

Nonlinear Static Analysis of Structures with Rocking Columns

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2010
In simple inelastic structures subjected to severe base motions, the maximum acceleration response is bound by the yield strength and is inversely proportional to its mass. It can be demonstrated that a similar effect is approximately produced in structures with multidegrees of freedom.

Geometric nonlinear static analysis of cable supported structures

Computers & Structures, 1988
A numerically efficient procedure is presented for generating the stiffness of a parabolic three-node finite element for the static, nonlinear analysis of three-dimensional cable-supported structures. Numerical computations are minimized by explicitly evaluating the large deformation stiffness matrix with respect to global coordinates while avoiding ...

Nonlinear static analysis of cable-stayed bridge structures

Computers & Structures, 1979
Abstract The nonlinear static analysis of plane cable-stayed bridge structures is discussed. A computer program is presented which will analyze a plane cable-stayed bridge structure considering the effect of initial cable tensions, member dead weights, and distributed and concentrated live loads.

Nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of framed structures

Computers & Structures, 1979
Abstract The present study is concerned with methods of nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of structures, particularly for application to geometrically nonlinear space frames. The displacement formulation of the finite element method is adopted.

NONLINEAR STATIC ANALYSIS OF END-FITTINGS FOR GFRP-PRESTRESSING RODS

Computers & Structures, 1983
Abstract This contribution affords an insight into a current research project about end fittings for pretensioned GFRP rods. The purpose of the present paper is to show that the ADINA-FE-program can be modified by the user at reasonable expense for the analysis of structures and materials whose properties cannot be reproduced adequately by the ...

On the static analysis of nonlinear feedback loops

Mathematical Biosciences, 1986
This paper deals with the stationary states, or operating points, of simple feedback loops consisting of an arbitrary number of nonlinear subsystems. It is assumed that (1) the static input-output relationship of each subsystem is known; (2) little or nothing is known about their dynamics.
