Nonlinear static cyclic pushover analysis for flexural failure of reinforced concrete bridge columns with combined damage mechanisms

Acta Mechanica, 2013
In a fixed connection of a reinforced concrete bridge column, experiments have shown that the longitudinal reinforcing bars slip at the interface of the connection under cyclic seismic loading. The bond-slip (or strain penetration) of the longitudinal reinforcing bars causes a pinching effect in the column’s hysteresis curve.

Nonlinear Static-Oriented Pushover Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Columns Using Variable Oblique Finite-Element Discretization

International Journal of Civil Engineering, 2016
A fast converging and fairly accurate nonlinear simulation method to assess the behavior of reinforced concrete columns subjected to static-oriented pushover force and axial loading (sections under biaxial-bending moment and axial loading) is proposed. In the proposed method, the sections of column are discretized into “Variable Oblique Finite Elements”

Experiments on reinforced concrete beam-column joints under cyclic loads and evaluating their response by nonlinear static pushover analysis

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2010
Beam-column joints are the key structural elements, which dictate the behavior of structures subjected to earthquake loading. Though large experimental work has been conducted in the past, still various issues regarding the post-yield behavior, ductility and failure modes of the joints make it a highly important research topic.

Assessment of modal pushover analysis and conventional nonlinear static procedure with load distributions of federal emergency management agency for high‐rise buildings

The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2008
AbstractThe nonlinear static pushover analysis technique is mostly used in the performance‐based design of structures. However, the pushover analysis with load distributions of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) loses its accuracy in estimating the seismic responses of long‐period structures where higher mode effects are important.

Application of performance based nonlinear static pushover analysis for seismic design of RC buildings

2013
Seismic retrofitting of already constructed buildings is one of the most effective methods of decreasing the risk. However the seismic performance of the structure may not be improved by Strengthening unless the professional engineer selects an appropriate modifying technique based on seismic evaluation of the already constructed structures.
