Stiffness Matrix for Geometric Nonlinear Analysis

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1986
A new stiffness matrix for the analysis of thin walled beams is derived. Starting from the principle of virtual displacements, an updated Lagrangian procedure for nonlinear analysis is developed. Inclusion of nonuniform torsion is accomplished through adoption of the principle of sectorial areas for cross‐sectional displacements.

Nonlinear numerical method for stiff systems

2010 International Conference on Computer Application and System Modeling (ICCASM 2010), 2010
For a large class of nonlinear differential degree of stiff system, changing the past by the Newton-Raphson iterative method, the introduction of Brown Method to solve such a stiff system of numerical solution of nonlinear problems, the results of numerical experiments show that the Brown Method for solving the validity of such problems.

Nonlinear Lateral Dynamic Stiffness of Piles

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1981
The effect of nonlinear soil behavior (without slippage of gapping) on the dynamic response of piles subjected to lateral loads is explored, using a finite element model for the soil region adjoining the pile, a consistent boundary matrix at some distance to reproduce radiation effects, and an iterative, equivalent linearization technique to estimate ...

Vibration Testing of Aeroelastic Structures Containing Geometric Stiffness Nonlinearities

54th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2013
An experimental approach is described to investigate the vibration characteristics of flexible structures that are susceptible to geometric nonlinearities, such a modern flexible aircraft. The approach enables measurements to be made in the nonlinear regions encountered in-flight, thus exploring the structural nonlinearities, but are performed in such ...

Extending convergence theory for nonlinear stiff problems part I

BIT Numerical Mathematics, 1996
Stiff differential equations are characterized by geometric properties of the flow -- existence of a strongly attractive, smooth, invariant manifold. The aim of the authors is to prove convergence of one-step discretizations without making any further structural assumptions on the problem (such as one-sided Lipschitz conditions, or singular ...

Human body inspired vibration isolation: Beneficial nonlinear stiffness, nonlinear damping & nonlinear inertia

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2019
Abstract This paper investigates, for the first time, a human body inspired anti-vibration structure (HBIAVS) for exploring its vibration isolation potential. The anti-vibration structure HBIAVS consists of an X-shaped supporting structure to simulate legs of human body and a rotational unit with mass to mimic rotational motion of arms and upper body

Stiffness Nonlinearity Classification Using Morlet Wavelets

2010
A methodology based on wavelet transform using standard and low-oscillation Morlet wavelets is presented to distinguish between symmetric and asymmetric polynomial form of stiffness nonlinearities. Free vibration response of the system is wavelet transformed and ridges are estimated.

Spinal Implant With Adjustable and Nonlinear Stiffness

Volume 6: 35th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, Parts A and B, 2011
The human spine is a complex mechanism composed of both passive and active components. The nonlinear stiffness of the passive components provides mechanical stability to the system. There is a need for spinal implants that have nonlinear stiffness to provide this stabilization if the spine loses stiffness through injury, degeneration, or surgery. There

Estimation of environmental model with nonlinear stiffness

2010 11th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control (AMC), 2010
Recently, Minimally Invasive Surgery(MIS) has come to the front. The research on surgical robot for operational support has been actively done. To use such robots in MIS, it is needed to estimate the environmental impedance as the numerical data and to preserve it as the standard reference value of the safety field of internal organs.
