Research on Mechanical Model and Torsional Stiffness Properties of Leaf Spring Torsional Vibration Dampers for Marine Diesel Engines

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The torsional stiffness parameter significantly influences the natural frequency of a leaf spring torsional vibration damper and its proper match with a diesel engine, and the nonlinear characteristics of torsional stiffness avoid reduced reliability due

Mechanical Properties of Architected Polymer Lattice Materials: A Comparative Study of Additive Manufacturing and CAD Using FEM and µ‐CT

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...

Stress Wave Anisotropy in Centered Square Highly Nonlinear Granular Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Highly ordered, close packed granular systems present a nonlinear dynamic behavior stemming from the Hertzian contact interaction between particles. We investigated the propagation of elastic stress waves in an uncompressed, centered square array of ...

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.

Core crush criterion to determine the strength of sandwich composite structures subjected to compression after impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this study a core crush criterion is proposed to determine the residual strength of impacted sandwich structures. The core of the sandwich is made of a Nomex Honeycomb core and the faces are laminated and remain thin.

Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Analytical Model of Bolted Joint Structure and Its Nonlinear Dynamic Characteristics in Transient Excitation

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
The dynamic response of crucial components often depends upon the dynamic behavior of bolted connections. As is usually the case, the accurate modeling of structures with many mechanical joints remains a challenge work. The nonlinear behavior included in

Multistability and localization in forced cyclic symmetric structures modelled by weakly-coupled Duffing oscillators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Many engineering structures are composed of weakly coupled sectors assembled in a cyclic and ideally symmetric configuration, which can be simplified as forced Duffing oscillators.
