High Energy Density Asymmetric Aqueous Supercapacitor Based on a 2D Manganese Carbide as a Positive Electrode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A circular route, involving upcycling of waste surgical masks, affords a Mn‐based layered carbide with porosity, redox activity and low work function. These features enable its effective operation as positive supercapacitor electrode in an aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor delivering 213 Wh L−1 energy density.

Two‐Way Shape Memory Alloy and Polymer Composite Hybrid Smart Actuator With High Speed, Accuracy, and Reversible Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tailored thermo‐mechanical properties of shape memory polymer composites enable large reversible deformation as well as high actuation speed. Moreover, a structural design with curvature in the transverse direction achieves sub‐second actuation on heating and a larger recovery ratio on cooling. Finally, these newly developed smart two‐way actuators can

Modelling exchange rates: smooth transitions, neural networks, and linear models [PDF]

open access: yes
The goal of this paper is to test for and model nonlinearities in several monthly exchange rates time series. We apply two different nonlinear alternatives, namely: the artificial neural network time series model estimated with Bayesian regularization ...

Carbon Contacts to Proteins Enable Robust, Biocompatible Electronic Junctions with Near‐Activation‐less Conduction Down to 10 K

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust solid‐state protein junction with a semi‐transparent eC/Au electrode allows photoexcitation of the bacterio‐rhodopsin, bR layer, to isomerize the bR retinal. The resulting photo‐response shows the protein is functional in the solid‐state junction.

Multi-Frequency Entropy for Quantifying Complex Dynamics and Its Application on EEG Data

open access: yesEntropy
Multivariate entropy algorithms have proven effective in the complexity dynamic analysis of electroencephalography (EEG) signals, with researchers commonly configuring the variables as multi-channel time series.

Molecularly Engineered Highly Stable Memristors with Ultra‐Low Operational Voltage: Integrating Synthetic DNA with Quasi‐2D Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molecularly engineered memristors integrating Ag nanoparticle–embedded synthetic DNA with quasi‐2D halide perovskites enable ultra‐low‐operational voltage, forming‐free resistive switching, and record‐low power density. This synergistic integration of customized DNA and 2D OHP in bio‐hybrid architecture enhances charge transport, reduces variability ...

Addition of Subset and Dummy Variables in the Threshold Spatial Vector Autoregressive with Exogenous Variables Model to Forecast Inflation and Money Outflow

open access: yesEconomies
The TSpVARX model can be used in inflation and money outflow forecasting by accommodating the reciprocal relationship among endogenous variables, the influence of exogenous variables, inter-regional linkages, and the nonlinearity of the relationship ...

Strong Approximations for Nonlinear Transformations of Integrated Time Series [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we establish the strong approximations for the nonlinear transformations of integrated time series. Both the asymptotically homogeneous and integrable transformations are considered, and the explicit rates for the convergence to their limit

The Cuttlebone Blueprint for Multifunctional Metamaterials: Design Taxonomy, Functional Decoupling, and Future Horizons

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...
