Applications of nonlinear ultrasonics to the NDE of material degradation

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2000
Nonlinear ultrasonics is suggested as a new approach for the effective evaluation of material degradation. As its quantification, the parameter beta is introduced on the basis of nonlinear elasticity, and a new method to measure the parameter beta using bispectral analysis is proposed.

Higher order nonlinear ultrasonic imaging

1999 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium. Proceedings. International Symposium (Cat. No.99CH37027), 2001
The processing of second harmonic echoes from both biological tissue and contrast agents has generated new diagnostic methods in medical ultrasound. The work presented here demonstrates the extraction of higher order nonlinearities. The underlying idea is to model the nonlinear wave propagation or reflection from a contrast bubble by a polynomial ...

NONLINEAR BEHAVIOR OF ULTRASONIC WAVE AT CRACK

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
A nonlinear model for contact acoustic nonlinearity (CAN) of closed crack was proposed and analyzed to investigate the nonlinear characteristics of transmitted wave for normal incident wave. Closed crack was modeled as an imperfectly jointed interface that has nonlinear discontinuity in displacement across its boundary.

On some nonlinear effects in ultrasonic fields

Ultrasonics, 2000
Nonlinear effects associated with intense sound fields in fluids are considered theoretically. Special attention is directed to the study of higher effects that cannot be described within the standard propagation models of nonlinear acoustics (the KZK and Burgers equations).

Nonlinear Ultrasonic Evaluation of Concrete Microcracking

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004
Microcracking is usually associated with most types of concrete deterioration. The nondestructive detection of deterioration in in‐situ concrete in its early stages is not practical using current technology. In this project nonlinear ultrasound was used to evaluate the degree of microcracking changes resulting from increasing compression stresses ...
