Optimisation of a cymbal transducer for its use in a high-power ultrasonic cutting device for bone surgery [PDF]
The class V cymbal is a flextensional transducer commonly used in low-power ultrasonic applications. The resonance frequency of the transducer can be tailored by the choice of end-cap and driver materials, and the dimensions of the end-caps.

Large Area Detection of Microstructural Defects with Multi-Mode Ultrasonic Signals
Cyclic loading or other stresses can lead to development of cracks and crack growth in mechanical structures, leading to eventual failure. While ultrasound imaging can be used for non-destructive testing of such structures, conventional ultrasound ...

A simple model of ultrasound propagation in a cavitating liquid. Part II: Primary Bjerknes force and bubble structures [PDF]
In a companion paper, a reduced model for propagation of acoustic waves in a cloud of inertial cavitation bubbles was proposed. The wave attenuation was calculated directly from the energy dissipated by a single bubble, the latter being estimated ...

The nonlinear dynamics of flexural ultrasonic transducers [PDF]
Dynamic nonlinearity can manifest as changes in characteristic properties of a vibrating system in response to variations in excitation. This study investigates the nonlinearity in the vibration response of the flexural ultrasonic transducer. This device is typically employed for industrial measurement, but little is known about the influence of ...

Ultrasonic Wave Mixing for Nonlinear Ultrasonics in a Microfluidic Capillary [PDF]
In this study we show that nonlinear ultrasonics, based on nonlinear wave mixing, can enable the measurement of the interactions between acoustic waves and a microliter liquid sample in a glass capillary microchannel. This has the potential to deliver new techniques with a high sensitivity to acoustic material properties.
