Nonlinear vibrations of buried landmines

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2005
The seismo-acoustic method is one of the most promising emerging techniques for the detection of landmines. Numerous field tests have demonstrated that buried landmines manifest themselves at the surface through linear and nonlinear responses to acoustic/seismic excitation. The present paper describes modeling of the nonlinear response in the framework

Vibration mitigation of a nonlinear rotor system with linear and nonlinear vibration absorbers

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2018
Abstract Steady state dynamics of a horizontally supported Jeffcott rotor system under nonlinear restoring forces has been studied in this work. Vibration reduction of the rotor system using linear tuned mass dampers (TMD), nonlinear energy sinks (NES), and combined energy sinks (TMD-NES) was studied.

Vibrations of the nonlinear oscillator with quadratic nonlinearity

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2004
Abstract In this paper the vibration of a mass–spring oscillator with strong quadratic nonlinearity and one degree of freedom is analyzed. The both, strong and hard, springs are considered. The restoring force in the spring which is the function of the quadratic deformation has to satisfy the condition of antisymmetry.

Localized Nonlinear Vibrations

2014
The description of various phenomena in solid state physics, the physics of waves and vibrations, biophysics, and engineering is based on models of (quasi-one-dimensional) molecular lattice dynamics. The study of linear quasi-periodic structures has allowed the explanation of many properties of systems consisting of a large number of interacting ...

Accurate Approximations for Nonlinear Vibrations

2019
As global issues such as climate change and overpopulation continue to grow, the role of the engineer is forced to adapt. The general population now places an emphasis not only on the performance of a mechanical system, but also the efficiency with which this can be achieved.

Nonlinear random vibration

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 1996
This note is concerned with the approximate solution of initial value problems for nonlinear second-order equations of type: \(u''+ \alpha g(u, u')+ \beta h(u)= f(t)\). In physical terms, these equations arise in nonlinear oscillations where \(g\) and \(h\) represent the damping and the restoring forces and \(f\) the external force. The author proposes

Control of Nonlinear Vibrations

2014
In this chapter, methods which can be used to control nonlinear structural vibrations are discussed. Introductory examples showing the control of linear and nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom oscillators have already been discussed in Sect. 1.4 of Chap. 1. This chapter extends the ideas presented in these introductory examples to a range of controllers,

Nonlinear Vibration Phenomena

2014
Nonlinear systems have a range of behaviour not seen in linear vibrating systems. In this chapter the phenomena associated with nonlinear vibrating systems are described in detail. In the absence of exact solutions, the analysis of nonlinear systems is usually undertaken using approximate analysis, numerical simulations and geometrical techniques. This
