Linear theory of nonlocal elasticity and dispersion of plane waves

Abstract The equations of the nonlocal elasticity given in [1]and[2] are linearized. The dispersion relations are obtained for one dimensional plane waves. The nonlocal material moduli are determined to fit exactly the acoustical branch of elastic waves within one Brillouin zone in periodic one dimensional lattices.

AbstractA weakly nonlocal version of the nonlocal continuum theory is used to calculate the interaction energy between a pair of identical defects in a face‐centred cubic lattice when the defect spacing is large. The lattice is assumed to be the same that was considered by Hardy and Bullough, namely, an idealized harmonic f.c.c.

After determining the values of the nonlocal moduli for longitudinal waves in an infinite space, Fourier transforms of the equations of axially symmetric longitudinal waves in an infinite circularly cylindrical rod are established and decoupled according to the Pochhammer procedure.
