Nonlocal Galileons and self-acceleration

open access: yes, 2017
A certain class of nonlocal theories eliminates an arbitrary cosmological constant (CC) from a universe that can be perceived as our world. Dark energy then cannot be explained by a CC; it could however be due to massive gravity.

Confined Hot Carrier Cooling Via Excited‐State Energy Gap Engineering in Graphyne Carbon Allotropes

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
The excited‐state energy gap (EEG), regulated by the concentration of sp‐hybridized carbon, provides an effective handle for tuning electron–phonon coupling behavior. This design enables long‐lived confinement of hot carriers near the top of the EEG with controllable energy levels.

Hybrid-Weighted Total Variation and Nonlocal Low-Rank-Based Image Compressed Sensing Reconstruction

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
To reconstruct natural images from compressed sensing (CS) measurements accurately and effectively, a CS image reconstruction algorithm based on hybrid-weighted total variation (HWTV) and nonlocal low-rank (NLR) is proposed.

Z-scan and spatial self-phase modulation of a Gaussian beam in a thin nonlocal nonlinear media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Considering that the nonlinear photoinduced phase shift to a Gaussian beam in a thin sample of nonlocal nonlinear media can be modeled as a Gaussian function to some real power the far-field can be calculated using the Fraunhofer integral.

Low‐Dimensional Materials and Van Der Waals Heterostructures for Energy Application: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Low‐dimensional materials (0D, 1D, and 2D) exhibit unique electronic and physicochemical properties, enabling advanced nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices. Mixed‐dimensional heterostructures combine these materials to enhance functionality.

Structural Similarity-Based Nonlocal Variational Models for Image Restoration

open access: yes, 2019
© 1992-2012 IEEE. In this paper, we propose and develop a novel nonlocal variational technique based on structural similarity (SS) information for image restoration problems.

Bio‐inspired nanophotonics: Structural color, chirality, and resonance metasurfaces

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
A butterfly‐wing‐inspired anisotropic plasmonic flatband resonant metasurface. Insets, photo of the butterfly, Sasakia charonda, and the SEM image of its wing scale (above); the SEM image of the metasurface (below). Abstract The dazzling colors of butterfly wings and hummingbird feathers are not painted with pigments, but crafted by nature's invisible ...

Blind Deconvolution With Nonlocal Similarity and l(0) Sparsity for Noisy Image

open access: yes, 2016
The blind image deconvolution techniques with sparsity prior in gradient domain are sensitive to noise, even a small amount of noise. To address this problem, in this letter, we propose a novel blind deconvolution model that combines low-rank property ...

T(w)o Patch or Not T(w)o Patch: A Novel Biocontrol Model

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A number of top‐down biocontrol models have been proposed where the introduced predators' efficacy is enhanced via the provision of additional food (AF). However, if the predator has a pest‐dependent monotone functional response, pest extinction is unattainable. In the current manuscript, we propose a model where a predator with pest‐dependent

Information Dynamics and Learning in Complex Adaptive Systems: Toward a Transdisciplinary Framework

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article develops a framework for understanding learning and adaptation in complex adaptive systems. Drawing from neuroscience, systems theory, information theory and quantum field theory, it examines how information processing, plasticity and systemic coherence emerge from distributed, nonlinear and feedback‐driven interactions. It argues
