Small-scale effects on the radial vibration of an elastic nanosphere based on nonlocal strain gradient theory

open access: yesNanotechnology, 2023
Abstract Nonlocal strain gradient theory is widely used when dealing with micro- and nano-structures. In such framework, small-scale effects cannot be ignored. In this paper a model of radial vibration of an isotropic elastic nanosphere is theoretically investigated. The frequency equation is obtained from a nonlocal elastic constitutive

Size-dependent electromechanical properties in piezoelectric superlattices due to flexoelectric effect

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2017
Piezoelectric superlattice is a potential component for nanoelectromechanical systems. Due to the strong nonlocal effect such as flexoelectric effect at interfaces, classical piezoelectric theory is unable to accurately describe the electromechanical ...

Vibrations of the Euler–Bernoulli Beam Under a Moving Force based on Various Versions of Gradient Nonlocal Elasticity Theory: Application in Nanomechanics

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2020
Two models of vibrations of the Euler–Bernoulli beam under a moving force, based on two different versions of the nonlocal gradient theory of elasticity, namely, the Eringen model, in which the strain is a function of stress gradient, and the nonlocal ...

Nonlinear Analyses of Porous Functionally Graded Sandwich Piezoelectric Nano-Energy Harvesters under Compressive Axial Loading

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
In this study, a sandwich piezoelectric nano-energy harvester model under compressive axial loading with a core layer fabricated of functionally graded (FG) porous material is presented based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT).

Strain Engineering of Magnetoresistance and Magnetic Anisotropy in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biaxial compressive strain significantly enhances magnetoresistance and critical saturation fields in thin flakes of the 2D magnet CrSBr, along all three crystallographic axes. First‐principles calculations link these effects to strain‐induced increases in exchange interactions and magnetic anisotropy.

Wave dispersion characteristics in lipid tubules considering shell model based on nonlocal strain gradient theory

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
In this paper, wave dispersion analysis of lipid tubules is presented by using the first-order shear deformation (FSD) shell theory. The small-scale effect is revealed explicitly based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT).

Nonlocal Metaspire: A Scalable Elastic Material Platform With Decoupled Mechanical Modes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nonlocal Metaspire introduces sequential rotation to realize wider scalability in implementing complex nonlocal couplings in elastic metamaterials while suppressing unintended mode coupling. Numerical results clarify the underlying wave motions, demonstrate mode‐decoupled roton and maxon formation, and support a straightforward extension to higher ...

A Survey of Interlayer Interaction Models for Graphene and Other 2D Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Van der Waals interactions arising from electronic polarization at atomically close interfaces generate corrugated interlayer energy landscapes that govern normal and tangential tractions. This review presents an overview of quantum, atomistic, analytical, and continuum modeling approaches, highlighting their roles across length scales in capturing ...
