Numerical Simulation on Saffman Force Controlled Inclusions Removal during the ESR Process

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Electroslag remelting (ESR) is an effective method for removing nonmetallic inclusions from steels or alloys. The main stage of inclusion removal during ESR is the aggregation of liquid metal film (LMF) to form droplets at the consumable electrode tip ...

Influence of refining slag composition on nonmetallic inclusions in 38CrMoAl steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
To achieve economic transfer of calcium and accurate inclusion modification by utilizing the high basicity of slag instead of calcium treatment, the refining slag of 38CrMoAl steel was optimized through thermodynamic calculations in view of the large ...

Application of Different Extraction Methods for Investigation of Nonmetallic Inclusions and Clusters in Steels and Alloys

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2014
The characterization of nonmetallic inclusions is of importance for the production of clean steel in order to improve the mechanical properties. In this respect, a three-dimensional (3D) investigation is considered to be useful for an accurate evaluation

Multiscale Simulation of Non-Metallic Inclusion Aggregation in a Fully Resolved Bubble Swarm in Liquid Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Removing inclusions from the melt is an important task in metallurgy with critical impact on the quality of the final alloy. Processes employed with this purpose, such as flotation, crucially depend on the particle size.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Study of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Aluminum–Silicon Alloys [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Manufacturing Science and Technology, 2020
Abstract In this article, a study of nonmetallic inclusions introduced during the casting process of the aluminum–silicon alloy is presented. The samples were investigated using a scanning electron microscope to find the chemical composition and X-ray tomography to check the volumetric content of the non-metallic inclusions.
