Cross-Work Theme Identification in Long Novels via Nonnegative Tensor Factorization

open access: yesMathematics
Identifying the major themes and recurring motifs of an author’s long novels is a basic task in literary studies. To support this task in a scalable way while retaining within-novel narrative variation, we model an author corpus as a third-order ...

Nonnegative Reduced Biquaternion Matrix Factorization With Applications in Color Face Recognition

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Volume 33, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Quaternion numbers are commonly used to represent color image pixels. Since color image pixels are nonnegative, nonnegativity constraint should be incorporated into the components of quaternion numbers. However, existing quaternion‐based matrix factorization models do not fully satisfy nonnegativity constraints.

Diagnosing Anaerobic Digesters' Function and Performance: From Meta‐Omics to Integrated Meta‐Omics Analyses

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
The integration of multiple meta‐omics can tremendously improve our understanding of the structure, function and dynamics of the complex biological system in anaerobic digesters. Created in BioRender. https://BioRender.com/u9rj8ko. ABSTRACT Anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic wastes by microorganisms into biomethane contributes significantly towards ...

Minimal positive realizations of transfer functions with nonnegative multiple poles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This note concerns a particular case of the minimality problem in positive system theory. A standard result in linear system theory states that any nth-order rational transfer function of a discrete time-invariant linear single-input-single-output (SISO)

Flexible unimodal density estimation in hidden Markov models

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 2994-3005, October 2026.
Abstract Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are powerful tools for modelling time‐series data with underlying state structure. However, selecting appropriate parametric forms for the state‐dependent distributions is often challenging and can lead to model misspecification.

A LOSO-NTD-Based Analytical Framework With Less Setting-Dependence Reveals Attentional Modulation of Gamma-Band Auditory Steady-State Response

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Although attentional modulation of gamma-band auditory steady-state response (gamma ASSR) has been widely investigated, variability in feature-level analytical parameter settings undermines cross-study comparability and may partly account for ...

Amyloid‐Induced Network Resilience and Collapse in Alzheimer's Disease: Insights From Computational Modeling

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 8, October 2026.
We present a multiscale computational model linking amyloid‐beta accumulation to brain network collapse in Alzheimer's disease. The spectral radius serves as an early‐warning biomarker, anticipating structural collapse by ~47 months. Progressive synaptic degradation drives a transition from synchronized activity through functional subpopulations to ...

Exponent-Incidence Constraints for Tensor Eigenvectors of Multi-Hypergraphs

open access: yesMathematics
We study support-determined constraints for eigenvectors of nonnegative symmetric tensors whose support may contain repeated indices. Such tensors are naturally encoded by uniform multi-hypergraphs, where each multiedge is represented by an exponent ...

Global dimension of dg algebras via compact silting objects

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract We introduce a notion of global dimension for a triangulated category relative to a compact silting object. We prove that the finiteness of this dimension is an intrinsic property of the triangulated category itself and, therefore, independent of the choice of the silting object.

Topological and geometric rigidity of nonnegatively curved submanifolds

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract We investigate the topology and geometry of compact submanifolds in space forms of nonnegative curvature satisfying a lower bound on the sectional curvature that depends only on the length of the mean curvature vector of the immersion. We show that this condition imposes strong constraints on either the topology or geometry of the submanifold.
