Acceleration of nonnumeric operations using hardware support for the Ordered Table Hashing algorithms

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 2002
The paper introduces a new approach to acceleration of nonnumeric, database, and information retrieval operations. While traditional techniques accelerate the most time-critical high-level software constructs, we propose novel low-level primitives and demonstrate how these primitives improve database operations.

Hardware algorithms for nonnumeric computation

Proceedings of the 5th annual symposium on Computer architecture - ISCA '78, 1978
This paper is concerned with the design of hardware algorithms for nonnumeric computation. The subset of nonnumeric operations considered is derived from string processing languages such as SNOBOL or high-level data base languages used in data base management architectures.
