Nonparametric if and DOA estimation

Seventh International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2003. Proceedings., 2003
A nonparametric algorithm for estimation of instantaneous frequency (IF) and direction-of-arrival (DOA) of wideband FM signals, at the uniform linear array (ULA), is considered. The IF estimation of signals received at the sensor array is performed by using positions of the Wigner distribution (WD) maxima.

NONPARAMETRIC AUTOCOVARIANCE FUNCTION ESTIMATION

Australian Journal of Statistics, 1997
SummaryNonparametric estimators of autocovariance functions for non‐stationary time series are developed. The estimators are based on straightforward nonparametric mean function estimation ideas and allow use of any linear smoother (e.g. smoothing spline, local polynomial).

Nonparametric estimation of instantaneous frequency

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1997
Summary: The local polynomial approximation of time-varying phase is used in order to estimate the instantaneous frequency and its derivatives for a complex-valued harmonic signal given by discrete-time observations with a noise. The considered estimators are high-order nonparametric generalizations of the short-time Fourier transform and the Wigner ...

Set estimation and nonparametric detection

Canadian Journal of Statistics, 2000
Summary: The authors consider the estimation of a set \(S\subset\mathbb R^d\) from a random sample of \(n\) points. They examine the properties of a detection method, proposed by \textit{L. Devroye} and \textit{G. L. Wise} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 38, No. 3, 480--488 (1980; Zbl 0479.62028)], which relies on the use of a `naive' estimator of \(S\) defined ...

Comparison of nonparametric frequency estimators

2010 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2010
This paper deals with the performance of several up-to-date nonparametric frequency estimators. The algorithms of frequency estimation are introduced and their bias, standard deviation and consumption time are compared with regard to the most common signal parameters.

A nonparametric estimator of the renewal function

Computers & Operations Research, 1993
A fast algorithm is presented for calculating the renewal function directly from data, without carrying out any statistical modelling. In the lightbulb example, the parametric method starts by fitting a probability distribution to the lifetimes of previous light bulbs that had been purchased.

On Variance Estimation in Nonparametric Regression

Biometrika, 1990
A simple explicit estimator of variance in nonparametric regression is suggested, based on the mean square of a sequence of residuals. The estimator is valid for general error distributions, has elementary bias and variance properties, and is optimal to both first and second ...

Nonparametric Bayesian Interval Estimation

Biometrika, 1979
SUMMARY Bayesian confidence bands for a distribution function are converted into confidence intervals for specified population quantiles and also for the mean. Bayesian tolerance limits are similarly constructed.
