Behavioral and Historical Processes Jointly Maintain Genetic Connectivity in Fragmented Chinese Water Deer Populations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
We challenge a major paradigm in mammalian ecology by demonstrating female‐biased dispersal in an artiodactyl, the endangered Chinese water deer. This key behavioral mechanism drives high gene flow across a fragmented landscape, effectively creating a genetic rescue effect that maintains population connectivity and counters inbreeding. Bootstrap Hypothesis Testing [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper surveys bootstrap and Monte Carlo methods for testing hypotheses in econometrics. Several different ways of computing bootstrap P values are discussed, including the double bootstrap and the fast double bootstrap.

Succession in a Tropical Dry Forest: A Test of the Chronosequence and Inference of Community Assembly Dynamics

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
This successional study in Florida Keys tropical dry forest (TDF) is the first to corroborate compositional and functional changes measured along a chronosequence with results of longitudinal measurements within sites. Additionally, this TDF ecosystem showed a rare successional pattern of convergence in species composition but divergence in functional ...

Implementing a Class of Permutation Tests: The coin Package

open access: yes
The R package coin implements a unified approach to permutation tests providing a huge class of independence tests for nominal, ordered, numeric, and censored data as well as multivariate data at mixed scales.

Generalized spectral tests for the martingale difference hypothesis. [PDF]

open access: yes
This article proposes a test for the martingale difference hypothesis (MDH) using dependence measures related to the characteristic function. The MDH typically has been tested using the sample autocorrelations or in the spectral domain using the ...

Device‐Specific Sex‐ and Age‐Stratified Distributions of Phase Angle and Skeletal Muscle Mass in a Routine Outpatient Multifrequency Bioelectrical Impedance Cohort

open access: yesObesity Science &Practice, Volume 12, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Large population‐based studies have demonstrated age‐ and sex‐related differences in phase angle (PhA). However, multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) systems remain highly device‐specific due to proprietary algorithms and prediction equations.
