Using the bootstrap to quantify the authority of an empirical ranking
The bootstrap is a popular and convenient method for quantifying the authority of an empirical ordering of attributes, for example of a ranking of the performance of institutions or of the influence of genes on a response variable.

Small sample inference for probabilistic index models [PDF]
Probabilistic index models may be used to generate classical and new rank tests, with the additional advantage of supplementing them with interpretable effect size measures.

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Bootstrap testing for cross-correlation under low firing activity [PDF]
A new cross-correlation synchrony index for neural activity is proposed. The index is based on the integration of the kernel estimation of the cross-correlation function.

Hierarchical Summary Statistics Encoding Across Primary Visual and Posterior Parietal Cortices
This study shows that mouse V1 simultaneously encodes the ensemble mean and variance of motion, providing a robust summary‐statistic representation that persists despite single‐neuron variability. These signals propagate to PPC, where they are transformed into abstract category representations during decision making.

(Un)Conditional Sample Generation Based on Distribution Element Trees
Recently, distribution element trees (DETs) were introduced as an accurate and computationally efficient method for density estimation. In this work, we demonstrate that the DET formulation promotes an easy and inexpensive way to generate random samples ...

Multi‐omics analyses uncover breed‐specific cis‐regulatory landscapes and higher‐order chromatin architectural differences that underlie early postnatal muscle fiber divergence in pigs. A super‐enhancer upstream of PPP3CB recruits MEF2C to activate PPP3CB transcription, while the PPP3CB–MEF2C positive feedback loop promotes oxidative muscle fiber ...

The size and shape of niche spaces or trait spaces are often analysed using hypervolumes estimated from data. The hypervolume R package has previously supported such analyses via descriptive but not inferential statistics. This gap has limited the use of
