Attenuating the nonresponse bias in hunting bag surveys: The multiphase sampling strategy. [PDF]

open access: goldPLoS ONE, 2019
Reliable hunting bag statistics are a prerequisite for sustainable harvest management based on quantitative modeling. Estimating the total hunting bag for a given game species is faced with a multiplicity of error sources.

National Pharmacist Workforce Study (NPWS): Description of 2019 Survey Methods and Assessment of Nonresponse Bias [PDF]

open access: goldPharmacy, 2021
National Pharmacist Workforce Studies (NPWS) have been conducted in the U.S. every five years since 2000. This article describes the online survey methods used for the latest NPWS conducted in 2019 and provides an assessment for nonresponse bias.

Survey mode and nonresponse bias: A meta-analysis based on the data from the international social survey programme waves 1996-2018 and the European social survey rounds 1 to 9. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
The constant increase in survey nonresponse and fieldwork costs are the reality of survey research. Together with other unpredictable events occurring in the world today, this increase poses a challenge: the necessity to accelerate a switch from face-to ...

Estimating Nonresponse Bias in Mail Surveys [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Marketing Research, 1977
Valid predictions for the direction of nonresponse bias were obtained from subjective estimates and extrapolations in an analysis of mail survey data from published studies. For estimates of the magnitude of bias, the use of extrapolations led to substantial improvements over a strategy of not using extrapolations.

Successive Wave Analysis to Assess Nonresponse Bias in a Statewide Random Sample Testing Study for SARS-CoV-2. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Public Health Manag Pract, 2022
Introduction: Nonresponse bias occurs when participants in a study differ from eligible nonparticipants in ways that can distort study conclusions. The current study uses successive wave analysis, an established but underutilized approach, to assess ...

Income Disparities and Nonresponse Bias in Surveys of Patient Experience. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Gen Intern Med, 2020
Recent research suggests an absence of meaningful healthcare disparities in patient experience for disadvantaged populations as assessed by Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (H-CAHPS)—the patient survey platform used by the

Assessing Nonresponse Bias in Farm Injury Surveillance Data

open access: bronzeJournal of Agricultural Safety and Health, 2021
HIGHLIGHTS Despite a response rate of about 18%, there was scant evidence of nonresponse bias. Farm and ranch characteristics of operations responding to a mailed survey were similar to those not responding.

An Evaluation of the quality of interviewer and virtual observations and their value for nonresponse bias reduction

open access: greenSurvey Research Methods, 2022
With the decline of survey response rates over the past decade, survey researchers need to gather useful auxiliary variables for all sampled units and reduce nonresponse bias through adaptive design or nonresponse weighting adjustments.

The Effectiveness of Incentives on Completion Rates, Data Quality, and Nonresponse Bias in a Probability-based Internet Panel Survey. [PDF]

open access: yesField methods, 2020
Previous research has shown that increasing the size of incentives can increase response rates for probability-based, cross-sectional surveys. However, the effects of incentives on web panels have not been extensively studied.

Evaluating the Utility of Linked Administrative Data for Nonresponse Bias Adjustment in a Piggyback Longitudinal Survey

open access: diamondJournal of Official Statistics, 2021
Nearly all panel surveys suffer from unit nonresponse and the risk of nonresponse bias. Just as the analytic value of panel surveys increase with their length, so does cumulative attrition, which can adversely affect the representativeness of the ...
