Analysis and Optimization of Nonsmooth Arches

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 2002
The Kirchoff-Love model for a smooth clamped arch is considered first. A new treatment for that classical model is developed. A variational formulation, based on optimal control theory, is introduced and, using duality-type arguments, the deformation of the arches are explicitly expressed by integral formulas.

On Sufficient Conditions in Nonsmooth Optimization

Mathematics of Operations Research, 1982
Second-order conditions are given which are sufficient for a point to be a local minimizer for certain nonlinear programming problems defined on Banach spaces. The functions involved in the problems are not required to be smooth or convex; indeed, they are required only to satisfy certain conditions which are weak enough to be satisfied by all locally

On Mixed Integer Nonsmooth Optimization

2020
In this chapter we review some deterministic solution methods for convex mixed integer nonsmooth optimization problems. The methods are branch and bound, outer approximation, extended cutting plane, extended supporting hyperplane and extended level bundle method.

On Minimizing and Critical Sequences in Nonsmooth Optimization

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2000
Summary: Let \(f\) be a bounded below, lower semicontinuous function from a Banach space into \(R\cup \{+\infty \}.\) We study the relationships between minimizing and critical sequences of \(f\), where the criticality condition is given in terms of some subdifferential \(\partial.\) Here the objective function \(f\) is not supposed to be convex or ...

A method for nonsmooth optimization problems

International Journal of Computer Mathematics, 2004
We introduce a method for solving a nonsmooth optimization problem. The algorithm constructs a sequence {xk } where xk +1 = [xtilde] and [xtilde] is a solution of a variational inequality problem and satisfies an Armijo-type condition. A convergence theorem for the algorithm is established and some numerical results are reported.

Theory of Nonsmooth Optimization

2020
Nonsmooth optimization refers to the general problem of minimizing or maximizing functions with discontinuous gradients. This chapter contains necessary information on theoretical nonsmooth optimization which is used to model clustering problems and to obtain necessary optimality conditions.
