Surveyor and analyst biases in forest density estimation from United States Public Land Surveys
Abstract Accurate forest density estimates based on United States Public Land Surveys have long been questioned because of doubts about randomness of both the surveyors' selection of witness trees and the underlying tree dispersion. This study analyzes the surveyor sampling of witness trees in six Midwestern states in the mid‐1800s.

(1) An improved backtracking search algorithm with teaching and learning‐based optimization (TLBOBSA) is proposed to extract parameters of the photovoltaic system. (2) The performance of TLBOBSA is compared with some well‐known competitive algorithms. (3) TLBOBSA was evaluated under different irradiance levels and temperature levels.

Bit‐Sliced Implementation of SM4 and New Performance Records
SM4 is a popular block cipher issued by the Office of State Commercial Cryptography Administration (OSCCA) of China. In this paper, we use the bit‐slicing technique that has been shown as a powerful strategy to achieve very fast software implementations of SM4. We investigate optimizations on two frontiers. First, we present a more efficient bit‐sliced

Euro area banks' interest rate risk exposure to level, slope and curvature swings in the yield curve
Abstract We investigate the interest rate risk exposures of euro area banks during times of crises and very low interest rates. First, we assess sensitivities of banks' stock prices to changes in the level, slope and curvature of the yield curve using the Bayesian DCC M‐GARCH model.

Volatility as a Transmitter of Systemic Risk: Is there a Structural Risk in Finance?
Abstract This article discusses the role of volatility in the context of systemic risk in finance. In addition,

Relational language influences young children’s number relation skills
Abstract Relational language is thought to influence mathematical skills. This study examines the association between relational language and number relation skills—knowledge of cardinal, ordinal, and spatial principles—among 104 U.S. kindergartners (5.9 years; 44% boys; 37% White, 25% Black, 14% Asian, 24% other) in the 2017–2018 academic year ...
