Hyperordinals and Nonstandard α-Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we extend the traditional set-theoretic notion of standard models and nonstandard models going up to α levels in the cumulative hierarchy, α any given limit ordinal. A proof of the representation theorem is given and the structure of nonstandard models is studied where the ”transfer principle” holds for every (not necessarily bounded ...

The Structure of Equilibrium in an Asset Market with Variable Supply [PDF]

open access: yes
This note presents new results on existence of rich Fubini extensions. The notion of a rich Fubini extension was recently introduced by Sun (2006) and shown by him to provide the proper framework to obtain an exact law of large numbers for a continuum of

Transcriptomic stress responses in Vaccinium spp. F1 hybrids: Implications for temperature‐resilient cranberry breeding using a crop wild relative

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate extremes threaten the sustainability of cranberry production, a culturally and economically important North American crop. This study demonstrates that wild cranberries (Vaccinium oxycoccos) harbor genetic variation that may enhance cold stress resilience when introduced into cultivated cranberry through hybridization.

Moral Economies of Debt Forgiveness and Enforcement in Postcrisis Iceland

open access: yesEconomic Anthropology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Who deserves financial relief in times of crisis, and on what grounds? The 2008 collapse of Iceland's banking system prompted state intervention to mitigate household indebtedness, including forbearance, pension withdrawals, repayment adjustments, and debt reductions.

Generating counterexamples for structural inductions by exploiting nonstandard models

open access: yes, 2010
Induction proofs often fail because the stated theorem is noninductive, in which case the user must strengthen the theorem or prove auxiliary properties before performing the induction step.

Persuasion in the political marketplace: How firms snitch on rivals to encourage regulatory enforcement

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary We study an important, but largely overlooked, non‐market strategy used by firms in the enforcement stage of policy: “snitching,” that is, providing intelligence about potential violations of their rivals in an attempt to persuade regulators to fine them.

Myocardial Perfusion Defects in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Mutation Carriers

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association, EarlyView., 2021
Background Impaired myocardial blood flow (MBF) in the absence of epicardial coronary disease is a feature of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Although most evident in hypertrophied or scarred segments, reduced MBF can occur in apparently normal segments.

On groups and initial segments in nonstandard models of Peano Arithmetic

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis concerns M-finite groups and a notion of discrete measure in models of Peano Arithmetic. First we look at a measure construction for arbitrary non-M-finite sets via suprema and infima of appropriate M-finite sets.

MXene‐Based Flexible Memory and Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The unique two‐dimensional structure, excellent electrical conductivity, and diverse surface groups of MXenes have garnered significant attention. Coupled with their exceptional flexibility, MXene‐based devices hold immense potential for flexible memory and neuromorphic systems. This review comprehensively discusses the fundamentals of flexible devices,

Nonstandard Models in Measure Theory and in functional Analysis

open access: yes, 2017
This thesis is concerned with the study of nonstandard models in measure theory and in functional analysis. In measure theory, we define elementary numerosities, that are additive measures that take on values in a non-archimedean field and for which the
