Modelling profit series: nonstationarity and long memory [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Economics, 2008
The dynamic structure of profit rates for 156 US manufacturing companies is analyzed by means of fractional integration techniques as an alternative to the commonly used ARIMA models with respect to the ''persistence of profits''. Thereby the pseudo spectral density aproach of Velasco and Robinson together with model selection criteria is applied.

Carbon, Nitrogen, and Corresponding Stable Isotope Signatures Reveal Channel Banks as Major Sediment Sources in a Tropical Agricultural Watershed

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Uncertainties about the applicability of δ13C and δ15N as tracers of sediment sources in tropical river basins highlight the need for more in‐depth investigations of these isotopes. This study therefore assessed the effectiveness of δ13C and δ15N signatures in discriminating sediment sources in an agricultural catchment in Northeast Brazil ...

Persistence in carbon footprint emissions: an overview of 92 countries

open access: yesCarbon Management, 2019
The existing studies on persistence of ecological footprint have largely concentrated on the aggregate ecological footprint without adequately considering its components.

VQ‐Wave: A Physics‐Driven Spatiotemporal Deep Learning Approach for Noncontrast‐Enhanced Lung Ventilation and Perfusion MRI

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To develop a robust deep learning framework for noncontrast‐enhanced functional lung MRI, overcoming the limitations of spectral decomposition in the presence of physiological nonstationarity. Methods We introduce VQ‐Wave (Ventilation/Q‐perfusion Waveform‐based Assessment of Variable Evolutions), a physics‐driven spatiotemporal ...

Using dendroclimatic analysis of exotic deciduous conifers in an arboretum to document tree growth in response to climate change, Northeast Ohio, USA

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Rising temperatures and wetter conditions in the Midcontinent of North America are influencing climate responses in trees. Dendroclimatological analyses of four exotic deciduous conifer species from Secrest Arboretum, Northeast Ohio help identify past, present and future climate‐tree interactions.

Toward Climate‐Robust Rainfall Runoff Models: Development and Evaluation of Parameter Libraries That Produce Dependable Predictions Across Diverse Conditions

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Determining rainfall runoff responses of catchments to unprecedented climate conditions is an issue which has largely eluded the hydrologic community for many years. Conceptual rainfall runoff models are used globally to predict runoff for regional water

Urban Heat and Spatial Statistics, Toward Sustainable Cities and Society: A PRISMA‐Based Systematic Review and Empirical Assessment (2020–2025)

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the past few decades, the intensification of global warming has brought increased attention to urban thermal dynamics, particularly regarding Land Surface Temperature (LST) and the Urban Surface Heat Island (SUHI) effect. This study conducts a systematic literature review alongside a bibliometric analysis of 123 peer‐reviewed articles ...

Managing the SDG‐Aligned Energy Transition in OECD Countries: How Do Economic Growth, Income Inequality, and Environmental Protection Expenditures Impact Energy Transition?

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In recent years, transition to renewable energy has emerged as a vital strategy for achieving sustainable development and reducing environmental degradation. Only when backed by a solid institutional and macroeconomic context can economic growth serve as a stimulus for the development of renewable energy.

From prediction to intervention: Paradigm shifts in causal AI for precision medicine and large‐scale cohorts

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Large‐scale cohorts and multimodal biomedical data have enabled powerful predictive models for clinical risk stratification, but prediction alone cannot guide effective interventions. This review introduces causal artificial intelligence as a design‐first framework that integrates target trial emulation, causal discovery, and robust effect estimation ...
