MAXIMUM NORM ERROR ESTIMATES FOR FINITE ELEMENT APPROXIMATIONS OF THE STATIONARY AND NONSTATIONARY NAVIER-STOKES PROBLEMS

Acta Mathematica Scientia, 1993
Abstract This paper deals with maximum norm error estimates of conforming finite element approximate solutions for the stationary and nonstationary Navier-Stokes problems in a plane bounded domain, using the so-called velocity-pressure mixed variational formulation. Quasi-optimal maximum norm error estimates of the velocity and its first derivatives,

Subdifferential boundary value problems for the nonstationary navier-stokes equations

Differential Equations, 2000
Let \(V\) and \(H\) be separable Hilbert spaces with dual spaces \(V'\) and \(H'\) such that \(V\) is densely and compactly embedded in \(H\) and \(H'\) is identified with \(H\). The norms of \(V,V'\) and \(H\) are denoted by \(\|\cdot \|, \|\cdot \|_*\) and \(|\cdot|\) respectively, and \((\cdot, \cdot)\) stands for the inner product of \(H\) as well ...

On the nonstationary linearized Navier–Stokes problem in domains with cylindrical outlets to infinity

Mathematische Annalen, 2005
The author examines the nonstationary linearized Navier-Stokes system in a domain with cylindrical outlets to infinity in weighted function spaces with exponential weight functions. It is proved that under natural compatibility conditions on the external force there exists a unique solution with prescribed non-zero fluxes over the sections of outlets ...

Global convergence in the strong norm of an iterative method for the nonstationary Navier-Stokes problem

Doklady Mathematics, 2013
It is established below that the existence of a strong solution to the nonlinear Navier–Stokes problem with any initial approximation from the class of strong solu tions is equivalent to the global convergence of the modified iteration sequence to the sought solution in the norm of the class of strong solutions at a conver gence rate higher than a ...

On the finite element approximation of the nonstationary Navier-Stokes problem

1980
In this note we report some basic convergence results for the semi-discrete finite element Galerkin approximation of the nonstationary Navier-Stokes problem. Asymptotic error estimates are established for a wide class of so-called conforming and nonconforming elements as described in the literature for modelling incompressible flows.

Stability, Regularity and Numerical Analysis of the Nonstationary Navier-Stokes Problem

1983
Publisher Summary This chapter describes some results relating the stability and regularity of the solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations with the long-term error and the stability of numerical approximations. They are of two general types, both utilizing stability assumptions to extend results that were known locally in time to ones that are ...

Estimates of solutions of an initial- and boundary-value problem for the linear nonstationary Navier-Stokes system

Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1978
We prove exact estimates in Holder norms of solutions of initial- and boundary-value problems for a Navier-Stokes system with boundary condition , where T is the stress tensor and is the unit vector of the normal to the boundary.

Estimates of solutions of a general initial-boundary-value problem for the linear nonstationary system of Navier-Stokes equations in a half-space

Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1983
In the half-spaceX3>0 one considers the initial-boundary-value problem for the Stokes system in which the boundary conditions are given by means of an arbitrary matricial differential operator of size 3×4. One proves that, under certain restrictions on this operator, the solution satisfies coercive estimates in the norms of Wρ2l,l.

The existence and uniqueness of the generalized solution of the inverse problem for the nonlinear nonstationary Navier-Stokes system in the case of integral overdetermination

Mathematical Notes, 1993
The Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluid flow with inhomogeneous term in the form \(F(x,t) = f(t) g(x,t)\) and the integral overdetermination condition \[ \int_ \Omega V(x,t) \omega (x)dx = \varphi (t) \] are studied in the paper. The functions \(g, \omega, \varphi\) are given.
