Nonlinear Response of High Arch Dams to Nonuniform Seismic Excitation Considering Joint Effects

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2013
Nonuniform excitation due to spatially varying ground motions on nonlinear responses of concrete arch dams is investigated. A high arch dam was selected as numerical example, reservoir was modelled as incompressible material, foundation was assumed as ...

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Limitation on holographic storage in photorefractive waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
We show that photorefractive waveguide devices are subject to a limitation on their holographic storage capability owing to transversely nonuniform nonlinear losses to evanescent and radiation ...

Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Space cutter compensation method for five-axis nonuniform rational basis spline machining

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
In view of the good machining performance of traditional three-axis nonuniform rational basis spline interpolation and the space cutter compensation issue in multi-axis machining, this article presents a triple nonuniform rational basis spline five-axis ...

Nonuniform autonomous one-dimensional exclusion nearest-neighbor reaction-diffusion models

open access: yes, 2010
The most general nonuniform reaction-diffusion models on a one-dimensional lattice with boundaries, for which the time evolution equations of corre- lation functions are closed, are considered. A transfer matrix method is used to find the static solution.

Categorical Nonuniformity

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
The categorical approach, which is a method federal courts use to ‘categorize’ which state law criminal convictions can trigger federal sanctions, is one of the most impactful yet misunderstood legal doctrines in criminal and immigration law. For thousands of criminal offenders, the categorical approach determines whether a previous state law ...

Characterization of a Recyclate‐Based MgO‐Steel Composite As‐Sintered Inert Anode Candidate After Exposure to Cryolite Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon‐free inert anodes are essential for decarbonizing aluminum electrolysis. This study investigates a recyclate‐based MgO‐316L steel composite anode tested under galvanostatic Hall–Héroult conditions in cryolite at 1000°C. Microstructural analysis reveals selective MgO fluorination, spinel and oxide layer formation, electrolyte infiltration, and ...
