Treatment of Noninfected Nonunions: Normotrophic Nonunions
2006In normotrophic nonunions (the intermediate category between hypertrophic and atrophic nonunions), vascularization at the nonunion site is poor but exists, and on the bone scan detection of the tracer is poor. The biological activity of the connective tissue in the interfragmentary gap is low but not absent.

Humerus fractures comprise 5% to 8% of all fractures. Although uncommon, nonunions can present a frustrating challenge to the orthopedic surgeon. Various risk factors that may predispose patients to nonunion include obesity, osteoporosis, alcoholism, smoking, poor bone quality, and scar tissue. Many methods of treatment have been described with various

Ununited fractures of the clavicle are rare, and when nonunion occurs the cause should be found. Of 18 cases of nonunion here studied, 4 were in the lateral third of the bone, and nonunion was explained by the rupture of the coracoclavicular ligament. When this ligament is intact, union is generally prompt.

Nonunion of fractures in the dog
Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1970ABSTRACTAn investigation into the healing of experimentally produced fractures of the radius and ulna of miniature poodles is reported.A comparison is made between the healing of fractures subjected to various postoperative regimes.Résumé. A case of posterior fracture-dislocation of the elbow with a comminuted radial head fracture which subsequently went on to nonunion is reported. Radiographs at followup revealed a pseudoarthrosis of the radial neck, with at least part of the normal pronation and supination occurring through the pseudoarthrosis site.

The Biological Basis for Nonunions
JBJS Reviews, 2016➢ Fracture nonunion is a failure of the biological processes of fracture-healing.➢ Critical cellular events in fracture-healing include the inflammatory response, differentiation and proliferation of progenitor cells, formation of fibrocartilage callus, angiogenesis and subsequent mineralization of the callus, vascular union

Complications of Arthrodesis and Nonunion
Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, 2012Complications of joint fusions can include those applicable to any surgery such as bone and/or soft-tissue infection, wound dehiscence, and failure of fixation. Other complications are specific to fusion procedures and would include malalignment, proximal or distal joint deterioration, and delayed union or nonunion.

Nonunions and malunions of the pelvis
European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, 2014Neglected pelvic fractures manifesting as pelvic nonunion or malunion are usually due to inadequate initial fixation or negligence of the injury because of increased attention towards other associated life-threatening conditions. The management of such injuries is complex.

Treatment of subtrochanteric nonunions
Injury, 2006The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate our results of treating subtrochanteric nonunions with a (AO/ASIF) blade plate. We treated a total of 32 patients (33 hips) with a subtrochanteric nonunion with a blade plate. Outcome measures were time to healing, complications after the index-operation and the Merle d'Aubigne hip score at follow-

Management of Scaphoid Nonunions
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2003Scaphoid nonunions result in a predictable pattern of wrist arthrosis. To minimize the incidence of arthrosis, the goal of treatment should be consolidation of the fracture with the scaphoid in anatomic alignment. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging scans can aid evaluation of carpal collapse, scaphoid collapse, scaphoid nonunion, bone ...
