Totalsynthese von (–)‐Norgestrel
Helvetica Chimica Acta, 1985Total‐Synthesis of (–)‐Norgestrel(–)‐Norgestrel (1a) or (–)‐norethindrone (1b), two active progestational ingredients of currently used contraceptives have been synthesized stereoselectively. Compound 1a has been obtained starting from m‐cresol methyl ether, dimethyl malonate, and (E)‐1,4‐dibromo‐2‐butene.

A new synthesis of d-norgestrel (17alpha-ethynyl-18-methyl-19-nortestosterone) by ethynylation is presented. The regioselective sulfonylmethylation of optically active 7a beta-ethyl-6H-77a-dihydroindan-15-dione opens the possibility of a new technically simpler synthesis. Reaction of the (+)-enedione with pa raformaldehyde and benzenesulfinic acid in

An improved long-acting Norgestrel-T contraceptive device has been developed. The effects of different release levels of levonorgestrel on the endometrium were studied in a selected group of 42 subjects. A randomized comparative study of the clinical performance of Cu-T 200 and Ng-T devices was undertaken in 200 fertile women for 15 months ...

Automated colorimetric assay of Norgestrel
Steroids, 1970Abstract A relatively sensitive assay for the contraceptive steroid norgestrel, in pharmaceutical preparations, is described. The procedure involves the blue tetrazolium reaction. Optimum conditions for color development were established. The relative standard deviation for the assay, which has a sample rate of 30 hr−1, were of the order of 0.9% at a

Abstract Steady release of d-norgestrel from an IUD was achieved with a plain Tatum-T-device, the carrier material being sleeves of silastic R . The device was tested in six healthy women, and plasma concentrations of d-norgestrel, estradiol and progesterone were determined for periods of 112–114 days. The values found corresponded to a daily release

Sustained intrauterine release of d-norgestrel
Contraception, 1978Clinical experience with seventy-two first insertions of a d-norgestrel-releasing IUD is reported. Plasma d-norgestrel concentrations were measured in twelve subjects. No pregnancies occurred in the 522 woman-months of use (averaging 7.3 months/subject) that have been accumulated. Removals were performed in six subjects for medical reasons and in seven

ABSTRACT Oral contraceptive pills have been a cornerstone of contraception for more than 6 decades. Oral contraceptives are highly effective in preventing unintended pregnancy, making them the most utilized reversible contraceptive method. Daily oral contraceptive pills have traditionally required a prescription from a healthcare provider due

METABOLISM OF [14C]NORGESTREL IN MAN
Journal of Endocrinology, 1968SUMMARY [14C]Norgestrel was administered to seven human subjects and 43% of dose was excreted in the urine within 5 days; the biological half-life of the radioactivity was 24 hr. Enzymic hydrolysis released only 32% of the the urinary radioactivity and a further 25% was excreted as sulphate conjugates. The metabolites excreted in the urine were

Abstract Peripheral plasma levels of progesterone, estradiol and d-norgestrel were determined by radioimmunoassay in five women using silastic intravaginal rings (IVR), homogenously impregnated with 50 mg of dl-norgestrel and in three women after oral intake of 250 and 30 μg of d-norgestrel.

NEW DELIVERY SYSTEMS FOR D‐NORGESTREL
Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1976Various new delivery systems for d-norgestrel the most potent avail able contraceptive gestagen are discussed. Numerous studies of d-norgestrel administered via subdermal capsules and rods intravaginal rings and IUDs have been conducted. Bleeding irregularities are the primary clinical problem associated with d-norgestrel.
