Normal, Abby Normal, Prefix Normal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A prefix normal word is a binary word with the property that no substring has more 1s than the prefix of the same length. This class of words is important in the context of binary jumbled pattern matching. In this paper we present results about the number $pnw(n)$ of prefix normal words of length $n$, showing that $pnw(n) = \left(2^{n - c\sqrt{n\ln n}}

Normal ordering normal modes [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2021
AbstractIn a soliton sector of a quantum field theory, it is often convenient to expand the quantum fields in terms of normal modes. Normal mode creation and annihilation operators can be normal ordered, and their normal ordered products have vanishing expectation values in the one-loop soliton ground state.

Posterior moments and quantiles for the normal location model with Laplace prior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We derive explicit expressions for arbitrary moments and quantiles of the posterior distribution of the location parameter eta in the normal location model with Laplace prior, and use the results to approximate the posterior distribution of sums of ...

The Role of Context-Related Parameters in Adults’ Mental Computational Acts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Researchers who have carried out studies pertaining to mental computation and everyday mathematics point out that adults and children reason intuitively based upon experiences within specific contexts; they use invented strategies of their own to solve ...

Estimation of the normal contact stiffness for frictional interface in sticking and sliding conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Modeling of frictional contact systems with high accuracy needs the knowledge of several contact parameters, which are mainly related to the local phenomena at the contact interfaces and affect the complex dynamics of mechanical systems in a prominent ...

Lognormal Lorenz and normal receiver operating characteristic curves as mirror images [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2015
The Lorenz curve for assessing economic inequality depicts the relation between two cumulative distribution functions (CDFs), one for the distribution of incomes or wealth and the other for their first-moment distribution.

USG of normal musculoskeletal structures

open access: yesIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, 2007
Advances in high-resolution technology, have had the greatest impact on the use of USG for musculoskeletal imaging. Structures previously considered inaccessible can now be evaluated accurately using this imaging modality.

A normal form analysis in a finite neighborhood of a hopf bifurcation: on the center manifold dimension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The problem of determining the bounds of applicability of perturbation expansions in terms both of the system parameters and the state-space variable amplitude is a key point in the perturbation analysis of nonlinear systems.

Teaching Normal Birth, Normally [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatal Education, 2009
Teaching normal-birth Lamaze classes normally involves considering the qualities that make birth normal and structuring classes to embrace those qualities. In this column, teaching strategies are suggested for classes that unfold naturally, free from unnecessary interventions.
