It is known that boundary value problems for the Laplace and Poisson equations are equivalent to the problem of the calculus of variations – the minimum of an integral for which the given partial differential equation is the Euler – Lagrange equation.

Shear Characteristics and Strength Criterion of Frozen Joints under Different Opening Degrees
Samples of rock coupling joints were collected from the Jiangluling Tunnel of the G214 line in Qinghai province. Models with surface topographies similar to these joints were manually created. Freezing shear tests under different normal stress conditions

On the existence of an integral normal basis generated by a unit in prime extensions of rational numbers [PDF]
In the present paper a necessary condition for a cyclic extension of the rationals of prime degree l to have an integral normal basis generated by a unit is given. For a fixed l, this condition implies that there exists at most a finite number of such fields.

Bifurcation Control on the Un-Linearizable Dynamic System via Washout Filters
Information fusion integrates aspects of data and knowledge mostly on the basis that system information is accumulative/distributive, but a subtle case emerges for a system with bifurcations, which is always un-linearizable and exacerbates information ...

Genetic basis of neurocognitive decline and reduced white-matter integrity in normal human brain aging [PDF]
SignificanceIdentification of genes associated with brain aging should improve our understanding of the biological processes that govern normal age-related decline. In randomly selected pedigrees, we documented profound aging effects from young adulthood to old age (18–83 years) on neurocognitive ability and diffusion-based white-matter measures ...

Construction of Self-Dual Integral Normal Bases in Abelian Extensions of Finite and Local Fields [PDF]
Let $F/E$ be a finite Galois extension of fields with abelian Galois group $\Gamma$. A self-dual normal basis for $F/E$ is a normal basis with the additional property that $Tr_{F/E}(g(x),h(x))=\delta_{g,h}$ for $g,h\in\Gamma$. Bayer-Fluckiger and Lenstra

Short Rational Functions for Toric Algebra and Applications [PDF]
We encode the binomials belonging to the toric ideal $I_A$ associated with an integral $d \times n$ matrix $A$ using a short sum of rational functions as introduced by Barvinok \cite{bar,newbar}.

Singular Higher-Order Complete Vector Bases for Finite Methods [PDF]
This paper presents new singular curl- and divergence- conforming vector bases that incorporate the edge conditions. Singular bases complete to arbitrarily high order are described in a unified and consistent manner for curved triangular and ...

On a linear system of differential equations
The linear systems of partial differential equations of the first order with the identical main parts is considered. Аpplying the well-known relation between a normal system of ordinary differential equations and a linear system of partial differential
