Normality Structures With Homogeneous Kinetic Rate Laws
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2004Abstract In this paper, a homogeneous type of kinetic rate laws of local internal variables and its corresponding macroscopic behaviors, are explored within the framework of “normality structures” by Rice. Rice’s kinetic rate laws of local internal variables, with each rate being stress dependent only via its conjugate thermodynamic ...

A characterization of the normal law
Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, 1969IfX, Y, Z are three random observations from a normal population with mean zero then the characteristic function of (X/Z, Y/Z) is exp\(( - \sqrt {t^2 + u^2 } )\). It is shown in this paper that this property characterizes the normal law.

SUGGESTIONS ON THE NORMAL LAW OF ERRORS
The Canadian Surveyor, 1964In this article it is shown that Hagen’s theory of errors is not complete and requires some additional hypotheses. One of these, which is extremely simple and possesses a clear experimental meaning, consists in assuming that, in addition to positive and negative elementary errors (with respective probabilities p and q), there is also a third kind of ...

Bulletin géodésique, 1964
This article is only a very general and theoretical introduction to the modified normal distributions. The author is presently engaged in further development of the theory in the analysis of various examples, the most remarkable of which are of astronomical origin.
